Default Is this clip absolutely necessary?

Just replaced the parking brakes. That was a challenge. No joke. Especially since it’s my first time replacing any drum brakes at all….

anyway, I noticed when things were going back I was missing this clip (picture). Is this absolutely integral to the operation of the brake set? I fear having to order another ( if I can figure out what part it is)

for comparison the picture on the drivers side included.

Yes. It keeps the shoes from digging into the casting. Will you have issue without it though? Not really, unless you use em a lot. Rear brake shoes are not difficult if you use a ratchet strap, just put it around em and tighten it up enough to get stuff in place.

Good to know. Thanks again.

that part is so small and under $10. But the shipping to here is the cost of the part many times over.

it’s use…I don’t think I use the brake at all. But I need to fix it to get the light off the dash. Can’t stand the blinking. And don’t want to pull the fuse just to exchange the red light with an orange one

I can wait to replace ….when I do my next order etc.

I think the things with the brakes is a second set of hands would work. In addition to a rachet strap.

You've got some corrosion there, i would have taken care of that while it was apart.

What would you have suggested? I wire wheeled the surfaces before placing the shoes in…I know it didn’t look like it

the backing plate I left and couldn’t be bothered as that’s a mess to get off and replace. I will give it another go around before closing up.

paint?
