Compressor R&R Advice sought
Hi all,
I just got a Hitachi compressor to replace my tires Hitachi compressor in the '06. I am gonna replace it myself. I've never done this. I've watched a few YouTube videos so I have an idea of what's coming.
Any advice on helpful tools? Procedures? Tricks? Much appreciated, in advance.

The hardest part is re-installing the cover that goes back in and is between the body and the compressor. It's crazy how it fits in there. It most likely will take you forever but after a while you will figure it out.
The next hardest part is one of the 10mm bolts that holds the compressor bracket to the frame. Access is not easy, just a struggle.
Last, the 2 big lines that come out of the compressor toward the rear of the vehicle. (These are the outside air coming in and the exhaust air going out.) It's hard to get any leverage when pulling these since the rear tire is in the way. (push in the Collett while pulling the line, but after years the hose is stuck in there.) Best to put it up on jacks, remove the tire and then un-install those two lines. You can then put the tire back on to uninstall the compressor if you don't feel comfortable under the car while on jack stands. Put the LR3 in off road mode and then pull the fuze before you do anything so you have good clearance to work.

I use this setup for the top 10mm bolt.
I can’t find the thread with this great idea, but if you notch out the top hole in the bracket, for install you can pre-thread the top bolt and fit the bracket back in with ease. Otherwise you’ll need to tape the bolt to the end of your socket and hope you can finagle in there. I’ve done it both ways. The notch is genius. Wish I could find the thread for proper credit.

I'm about to do the same, but have done this before (twice). I really liked the "notched" idea I got recently from a youtube video. When I have the bracket off, I plan on notching the top hole so that upon reinstall, I will thread the top bolt in a bit with my hand, and then install the notched bracket and tighten.
I am not sure which video I saw this in, but can search later if you'd like.
Overall, for a 4-7ish step project, it takes far longer than it should, and is excessively annoying. But is not 'difficult.' Just stupid.
