Default Cool box modification

Hi i have a LR3 2006
And made some conversations into a mini camper with a secondary leisure battery and disconnected the coolbox from the cars power supply and connected it to my leisure battery switch and fuse board and still doesn't work when the car is off it comes on when i start the car even though its connected to a separate battery i can only think the coolbox biad has a voltage sensitive relay and only works when volts go above 13volts . I will find a way to make it stay on some how .any of you succeeded please let me know thanks

Are you sure your leisure battery is supplying enough voltage to run the box? Others have posted that it will turn off with low voltage. Is your leisure battery being charged when you start the engine, supplying higher voltage from the leisure battery and turning the cold box on? How about putting a volt meter on in both cases and reporting back.

Where did you connect it from the battery, direct to the connection under the console covering? As for your theory, you may be correct. I had mine out and seem to recall there was more than just a Peltier device there. On that note I never looking into how long mine ran after shutting the car down but mine certainly runs for a while as I can hear the fan running. Minutes at least.

Since I wanted a fully loaded HSE when I purchased my 06 new, it naturally came with the cool box. I use it once in a while, and it works fine, however, it's not a required need or even a want on my part. I hate that it can't handle 4 standard water bottles without removing the plastic cover. It's designed around 4 12 oz cans of soda, and that is about it. Never paid close attention to the amount of time it stays on, but I would guess around 60 seconds as DT mentioned. Don't think that extra minute matters much if the LR3 is sitting in the hot Colorado sun for an hour.

I personally prefer it should shut off ASAP, as these cars are already pretty hard on batteries.

COSPILOT - Does yours have the phone adapter? I dont use that rubber cover and removed my phone cradle. I can easily fit four 16 ounce bottles and maybe even the skinny 20 ounce bottles. Removing the phone cradle made a big difference. I did install some window seal around the cover perimeter to help with the rubber insert being gone. All in all it works really well now.

I have the phone cradle, I was talking about the plastic lid thing between the cradle/armrest and the cooler box. Not a big deal, but I'm also fine with a cooler full of water and ice in the back. Long trips mean way more than 4 of anything, which means a cooler in the back for me. My cooler box is mostly a place for a box of kleenex 95% of the time.

Yes the lesure battery is supplying enough voltave but by disconnecting it from the car connector and connecting to leisure battery it does exactly the same thing works with the car on soon as i turn it off coolbox switches off after few seconds i thought it my be becouse of the ecu controlling it but its not it must have a voltage relay in that little circuit board on console by the fan and must only work above 12.4 volts

Still, to clarify, you have a direct connection to the cooler, right? I have nothing special with my setup and even if I power up the radio the cooler will still run for a while. I am certain with the radio power up that my voltage must dip to 12 or even a little less. Either way, you can bypass the electronics. Being a simple Peltier design it only needs 12v to operate, nothing fancy regulates it. Look at pics of the electronics box attached to the cooler, I wonder if they did still in fact include a temperature sensor too.

edit: found a nice pic showing the suspect electronics.

Thats right i diconnected the car 12v supply o that white connection you can see on pic and connected new power supply and i have a reading of 12.7 volts a d it doesn't came on but it turns on when i turn the car on so the voltage goes up to 14 v obviously i have a leisure battery connected to car with a splip chager relay in between the two batteries.
But no it doesn't wort just by puting 12v+- im investgating the circuit board now if not i should rip the one out of my 12v camping coolbox and replace it with that one lol

Can anyone confirm what the "waterproof" situation is with the coolbox? I would assume it's just a 100% waterproof plastic tub so as long as no leaks should be ok?

I'm curious about putting an ice pack or small bag of ice in there, maybe treating it more like a mini cooler than a refrigerator.
