Default Dash Cover Warning

If you have a dash cover like the Coverlay or any of the other hard cover types from Amazon, take note as to how the cover over the airbag is made.

We were unfortunate enough to be involved in a head on collision this moth. My wife was driving her 2008 HSE on a 2 lane rural road at 60 mph when a van pulled out in front of us. The State trooper estimated that we were still going about 40mph when we hit the van. We stopped in about 9-10 feet. Most would call that a SUDDEN stop.

Only the front airbags deployed. I was wearing my seat belt so not sure how hard the airbag hit me, but I am very sure how hard the plastic cover over the airbag hit me. Our cover was the design that had 2 small rectangle pieces that glued on the dash separate from the main dash. When the airbag deployed, the hard plastic cover hit me in the abdomen leaving a 12 inch laceration and them hit me the top of my thigh. The laceration was not too deep, but by the next few days there was a 2 inch wide ring of purple bruise around the laceration and a 3 inch diameter bruise on the top of my thigh. Both were/are still painful.

Not making any recommendations about what to do, just giving some information so you can make an informed decision about your individual situation.

Jeff
