Default Diff question

Guys, I have a friend that wants to do some light off roading with us but has the following problem. I don't have an LR3 so I'd like your opinion. What would you do? What's the worst possible outcome if the diff breaks, keeping in mind it's being replaced anyways? Thanks

"Brett,
I got some bad news yesterday. *I dropped off the lr3 at the dealership for programing of the second key and a couple of other issues. *One being a ringing sound that started day 2 of ownership. *It turns out to be the rear diff drive shaft bearing according to the service advisor. *They are willing to replace the whole diff but the part will not be hear for 7-10 days. *They have given me the truck back to drive until the part arrives. *This most likely puts me past the Sept 21 Cliffs trip.

But…..I had an idea if it is a bearing and they are replacing the whole diff why not take it on the cliffs trip. *Worst case is the whole thing craps out and I have to tow it from seneca to Orland park. *Not the end of the world.

Your thoughts???

FYI before I brought the truck into the dealership I changed the fluid on both diffs and transfer case. *The front and Transfer case fluid looked like new. *The rear diff fluid was black and smelled burnt so I do think they are right about a bearing in the rear diff.

Thanks,
Rob"

Worst possible? Probably the vehicle won't roll with the rear wheels on the ground.
That is if you mean worst case as it would apply to getting the vehicle home.

Worse yet, there is no neutral in the LR3 transfer case.
