Why would you risk burning up a $350 fuel pump? The pump is cooled by the fuel in the tank and if it is less than 1/4 full it can't cool the pump and it will burn it up.

It's the first time in 7 years and 2 land rovers the gas has ever gotten below 1/4 of a tank, hence me not knowing how many miles I have to go. An emergency caused me to have to get somewhere quickly, not that that is anyone's busy. While I appreciate your concern for my fuel pump, I would have appreciated more assistance with how many miles I have left to get to gas station. Thanks.

miles means nothing. its down to the amount left which isnt that much. Maybe 20 miles if on a highway but looking at the guage it should say how much is left on the instrument cluster. But its not perfect. Three miles might be ten and zero miles might be two or Vice versa. If its low get it filled. Common sense.

magoo1113,
Depending on your driving style, the Range counter might help you determine how many miles b4 empty.
Push the button located on your turn indicator switch on the steering wheel and toggle to Range.
Hope this helps.

OBTW, I've been there b4 where I see the empty light and hope I get another 10miles on it to get home, where I left my wallet. I won't do that again.

Regards!

About 20 miles, that's what I get. Usually fill up when the light comes on. Always have, never burned anything up.

My experience is once it gets to 60 miles to go, it nose dives quickly. Never ran out, but it can drop from 60 to 20 in nanoseconds....

Sounds like you need to push it and tell us when you run outta fuel. For science!

100% false... The LR3 uses a swirl pot. Pump is always submerged in fuel until one truly runs out of fuel.
