Default Engine System Fault message but no real codes?????

My info display in the cluster says engine system fault but when I check codes there are no engine control module faults. Has anyone else had this happen? I'd rather not have to pay a shop to look at this but I'm out of ideas. The vehicle runs fine and the actual check engine light isn't on, it's just annoying having the message come on every time I start the engine.

So no codes at all for anything? Which code reader? Also a failing battery (or alternator) can cause "ghost" faults at startup that are not real faults but actually the systems running at too low of an initial voltage. Usually thought its HDC/trans faults cause by low starting voltage.

I have a basic bluetooth adapter and the Torque Pro app. I've used it on other cars with no issues and even used it to see why the CEL is on in my father in law's truck today with no problem. The air bag light is on and I was getting the trans/HDC fault but I cleaned the brake switch today and the trans/hdc fault message and lights went away. I guess it could be the battery, it has a date code of 2017, but the engine doesn't sound slow when cranking. Maybe I'll looking at cranking voltage with the Torque Pro app tomorrow and then put my battery tender on it for the day and see what happens. Running voltage is fine, I remember seeing it be around 13.8-14V when looking at other running values with the app. I might be selling this truck to buy a regular sedan so I don't want to put a $180 battery in it if I don't have to.

It may be a Rover specific code. A new battery is about $120 from Napa, even cheaper at some auto places like Autozone. But understandable if you are selling the vehicle. You could try a hard reset, just disconnect the battery for a few minutes.

I tried a hard reset when I was troubleshooting my radio and the fault message has stayed. If I can get it smogged with the error message present I won’t worry about it as there are other things I’d like to fix.
