EPB question/issue
I’m trouble shooting my EPB where there is a fault. I initially thought that perhaps it needed to be relatched. I took the back off and noted it was latched. So I applied the brake again - There is no squeaking of the gears like usually happens to most, rather the motor runs, the main notched copper turns, but the screw that brings the cable in tight does not turn.
I have a video of this - you can’t see the far right screw turn but can assure you it does not.

I think the grey carrier has been pushed out and no longer is engaging with the threads on the cable mount (the black part with the threads) Did you run the "un-stick" routine with the gap tool?
I agree with you that it seems like that. It’s just not engaging with the threaded rod.
Not sure you will have room with it installed (2 of the three times I worked on mine I took it out and I don't recommend that unless it is ABSOLUTELY required).
Anyway, try to unscrew the big connector for the cable with the black threaded part. It will just pull back and allow you to reach a hex nut that turns the black threaded part. You should be able to turn the black threaded part freely. You should be able to push the grey part back toward the the black threaded part and then turn the black threaded part to engage with the grey part. I know that sounds wordy, but it makes sense in my head. I know that there are a few You tube shows that describe how to service this box, the info on reassembly may be of help. If it were not for Christian and Vera on the LRTime you tube channel, I would have never attempted any work on that "little magical box" that sits on top of the rear diff. Now I have serviced 3 of them.
You are fighting the lesser of two evils. It is hard to work on while installed and it is hard to remove and reinstall so there is not best answer. One note to you is you try to remove and service is to rie a heavy cord or stiff wire to the ends of the brake cables when you take them out. The routing of the cables is confusing, left cable is most difficult. The service manual drawing are of very little help, and if you do not get them right, you can't get them them to fit the little hooks on the lower control arm.

Notes: If the task completes successfully, the parking brake cables will drive out to the mounting position.
When servicing is done, use the “Drive Parking Brake To Latching Position” in the Control I/O
menu of your IIDTool and verify the parking brake functionality.

Pulling the release loop will disconnect the two parts. In the OPs case the unit is connected, but the threaded portion of the cable is not engaged with the carrier. I think you can unscrew the cable ring mount and turn the black threaded part to re-engage the carrier. It has been awhile since I was in one so that may not be possible while it is still in the car.
There are numerous videos showing how to adjust them. As I recall once it is placed in "service mode" (which I believe centers the carrier), you should turn the black threaded part about 5 turns after it is connected, otherwise it may not be able to adjust properly.
