LR3 owners...Where did you mount your fire extinguisher?

 

I don't have an LR3, but I can advise to mount at least two. One should be within arms reach of the seated driver. The other should be accessible when the one near the driver's seat is not. For example, it could be on the cargo door, or passenger side rear door. I also suggest having a clean agent extinguisher, and a cheap one. Well, if your rig is all stock and insured with a low deductible, then the clean agent isn't so important since insurance will pay for the loss. But if it's highly modified and underinsured, Halguard or something like that can save you some loss. But you won't want to empty out a hundred dollar extinguisher on a little grass fire on the side of the road from some other guy's tire blowout. If you have space for it, a water (or foam) extinguisher is the best, but they're big. They're nice because you can refill them with water and charge them with compressed air through a Schrader valve. Obviously that's one for the cargo area. You still want a 2.5lb within the driver's reach.

net is connected to drawers, and headrests on either side. Extinguisher fits snugly in net and zip-ties were added to make the space more snug. It can be pulled out easily, but does not otherwise move. Yes in a perfect world it would be within reach of the driver but honestly there is so little space around the front seats, and I need the back seats for passengers. If I see a better location I will probably try it.

 

Just fed the bracket through one of the anchor points. Its out of the way for the most part.

 

I told myself that I really don't need ELEVEN cup holders.

I decided to sacrifice the in-door rear driver side cup holder as there are two in the center and one on right the passenger side door. Total remaining cup holders for the second row is three, and there is only three seats.

This location is right behind the driver, quick access is easy: just get out, open the door closest to you and it is right in the door. No crawling around your passengers (usually children in the back). With the kids seat belted in, they are either in a booster (can't reach), not in a booster (too short in the arms to reach), or old enough to listen when told to leave it alone. I have had kids between 5 and 9 in that seat; some even have to try to climb in with the lift and tires making the truck taller, with no accidental pin pulling as of yet.

I currently have an automotive cheap-o from a big box store, but I would like to mount a five pound in the same location. Hopefully the oversize cup holder will be a good fit.

 

In the cup holder. So far that seems to be the most probable location as I have removed the second row middle seat for the aRB cooler and totally removed the third row for installation of Front Runner shelves. As soon as the LED light switches and USB port are installed in the left rear I can begin to finish up and install them.

I have been wanting to do the cup holder location for sometime but have been unable to find a proper sized extinguisher to best utilize the space.

 

Mine sits a bit higher than I would like for having it fit close to the panel. Might have to think of some modification to the cup holder if possible. I have 10 other cup holders so losing one is not going to be a serious issue and once the FE is installed (whether I mod it or not) that holder is out of the count.
Actually getting the panel off to back the clamp with reinforcement is my issue.

 

I have mine mounted horizontally to the front of my drivers seat, basically behind my feet. I am shocked that it has caused me zero issues being there. I couldn't be happier.

I used a piece of flat bar that I bent 90 at one end. The end I bent was enough space for screws to mount the short bend to the bottom of the cup holder. The longer end stands straight up and this is what I bolted the extinguisher bracket to.
