Default First LR3 Awsome! Few questions tho...

Evening boy,
I'm new to this forum and land rovers all together. I was looking to buy a f-250 harley davidson and I was stuck in traffic, had to pull over for a dump and stoped at this garage and bam. Anyways I love it.

I'd like to know if it's possible to change the lower model headlights for the higher hid headlights?

I don't have the Nav screen but I was looking to install one but I'm sorta confuse on how it would work since the stock stereo set-up would have to stay there. Those any aftermarket company make a screen that works with the stock stereo? If not how much would it be to get straight for rover?

Last but not least, any performance parts for these jeeps? I can't find nada! Like exhaust, intake, chip or supercharger? Anything really.

Thanks again boys,
JR

P.s I'll be posting up some pictures soon!

I don't have my LR3 yet (next friday hopefully!) but I'm a Discovery II owner and have driven / worked on LR3s before.

Sounds like an impulse buy to me! Especially if you were looking at a pickup truck, but I'm glad someone seems to have convinced you to buy one!

From what I had read, the headlights (and inclinometers for the self-leveling headlights) are enclosed within the headlights. Perhaps it's a fairly simple reprogram of the car's computer system; shouldn't be too difficult, especially if you know a LR specialist that can reprogram modules. The headlights are going to be quite pricey however! Probably ~$400-500 per side.

The nav screen is much the same deal, everything in these vehicles is fiberoptic, nothing is analog like most vehicles out there. I'm not sure if the "wiring" harnesses are run to the nav location or not, HOWEVER the nav screen really has nothing to do with the stereo. Even vehicles equipped with nav and the Logic 7 system have fully independent GPS systems. They show nav and suspension information only (and some diagnostic info if you know the secret codes )

There are aftermarket ones that fit, but it's not quite the same thing - and like I said, the stereo on the LR3 was never controlled by the touch-screen nav system, which was only for navigation and suspension purposes only.

Added HP items will certainly cause the existing drive train no end of extra stress. Built for safari, not speed.

Yeah I didn't even touch on that aspect of the post, oops. At 5600lbs or something like that - performance was obviously an afterthought to the primary goals of the vehicles capabilities. 300+ hp/tq and a 6 speed seems fine for me however!

For the Headlights, I'd stay with what you have, add additional external ones or upgrade aftermarket only !! I have an 05' with the light package and LOVE it, one evening the rightside head light went out in like North Dakota - nearest dealer, after replacing the bulb ($300+ @ Dealer vs $150ish online OEM) and still no lamp - there is an "igniter" (similar to the idea of flouresent bulbs) attached to the headlamp unit - $405 at dealer no aftermarkert or used - then it still didn't light up .. 11 hour drive to Minneapolis dealer and discovered another "igniter PACK" behind the scene that is -- sit down ... $1100.00 and special ordered only
HOWEVER, the Master Rover tech, smiled upon by god directly and admired by McGyver himself, knew how to fix this with a relay, some wire and an hour labor!! so roughly $360 included oil change, new wipers (I installed) and this fix - 2 years later I'm still smiling because after 130,000 miles, nearly 7 years owned and numerous nights spent in the back (by choice instead of hotels/campers) that is ALL I've had to repair on this .. My best friend
Bottom line, don't change it, enhance what is already there.. whatever the upgrade!! They are VERY WELL ENGINEERED vehicles, even if you only have the 6 cyl, consider turbo of forced induction and a cat-back exhaust
