After 7000 miles, I'm getting 10 MPG on average, but I have upgraded my tires to Nitto Terra Grapplers. Come to think of it... they didn't make a dramatic difference. I'm driving from OC to Tahoe next week, and then out to the Grand Canyon in July. Hopefully it will improve on the open freeway (as differentiated from OC/LA freeways).

My wife has about 18,000 miles on her LR3 and we frequently check the gas mileage
the old fashion way by dividing miles driven by gallons pumped or the cost of the doughnuts eaten by the coffee consumed or something like that, anyway we found the the computer reads lower MPG then we actually get which is 15city/ 17hwy - thats the good news. The bad news is that you will need to replace your brake at 17,000 miles

Rovers, as many cars, are designed to break in slowly, and it is done thru the ECU. Make sure you burn preium gas and remember it wasn't designed to get great gas mileage, usually most have been doing great on the road and lower then we want in town, part of this is due to the olf foot in the gas pedal thing. Rovers are heavy and they are dragging around alot of extra axles and gears.
Enjoy your trucks,
Mike

Had my 2006 HSE for a couple of months. I can get up to 18.5 to 19 MPH on long highway stretches. Two relevant factors that seem to me to influence MPG on this car are (i) the level of RPMs at which the car operates and (ii) tire pressure. I find that the car gets much better gas mileage when I travel less than 2000 RPMs. You car drive your car at reasonably fast cruising highway speeds (75MPH or less) at less than 2000 RPMs, though this takes discipline and a soft/patient foot. Also feel that cruise control on long stretches of highway helps.

Also find that inflating the tires slightly more than suggested improves the fuel economy - at least on the highway.

I agree with amukamal on this one, i tried driving on highway around 70-75mph ease on the gas pedal, and less than 2000rpm
on 6th gear.. it improves mpg alot!
I usually get 15-16mpg on freeway in the morning because i "rush" to work,
and coming home i get to ease down (lots of crusing) so i get around 17-18 mpg.

Your driving habit/style really makes a huge different in gas mileage.
I remember watching an episode of top gear with clarkson driving under 2000rpm the whole time
and the mpg number was very impressive. (cant remember what he was driving)

I've got 1300 miles on my HSE, and I'm averaging about 10 MPG in the city, just as Fbaer, I have a 7 mile commute each way in stop and go traffic. On the highway I get about 14. I've found it makes no difference whatsoever whether I use the air conditioning or not, I get exactly 10 MPG in the city. Hope it improves.

I just ordered a chip that's supposed to enhance MPG (got it on eBay). will report any noticeable difference if I find it.
Do your self a hugh favor and don't put thatr cheap *** chip in your LR3. It won't do you any good and so far I haven't heard of one person who bought one for any of the Rover models, get better MPG.
Short in town trips, kill gas miles, especially when you are enjoying your 300HP engine. Next time you fill up with supreme, set you odometer and start running in 3rd gear instead of drive, it may sound crazy to you if you have never tried it before, but for in town driving you can usually get 2 more MPG somewhere into the second tank of gas. TRY it, it works. I can go into the long explanation as to why it works, but just know it does.
And as someone else mentioned, keep the tires aired up, by as much as 5 pounds more then Rover suggests, this will help also.

Wow, I just did a test on my 2003 DiscoII and I seem to be getting about 14-16MPG (US) or so with a variety of driving. which isn't too much of a change because I had been getting about 20-21MPG with my Acura RSX Type-S. Of course if I was driving in heavy traffic daily I wouldn't be picking an offroad vehicle to drive...
