I agree. It blows.

With that being said, check back in a few weeks. Maybe a month or 2. We are doing it right and I promise you wont be disappointed.

In the mean time, give me a call and I will take care of it for you.

Maybe I got very lucky then...

How's your GAP IIDTool working out for you, DavC? I'm debating getting one soon. Is the Bluetooth model worth the extra cost? Running diagnostics on an iPad sounds pretty awesome.

Thanks!

Hey! Quick report now is that it works fantastically. I commute with my 3 so I run stock height all the time. Using the tool to give myself a lift on trails or whenever ground clearance is an issue. First week I had it I used it to calibrate my suspension to better tolerances after years of the tolerances drifting. I also use it to clear codes if they start to stack up and see what comes back over time, emailing the lists to myself from the tool's app. I have done a few reflashes to the ECU's too and will be doing the transmission reflash at some point soon. Was nice to have the updated firmware for the bluetooth phone pairing and once I get new nav discs I will no longer have the dumb "nav on move lock" warnings and features blacked out.

I will say the max lift I get is only about 42-43mm so do with that what you will. I find its actually the exact perfect height to use when I want that non-stock look.

For me its a wonderful tool to keep in my bag just in case something goes south computer-wise. Every once in a while I will use it to check temperature or pressure values for a few odds and ends .

AS FOR COST: It's hard to say but I would recommend getting the BT model. 99% of the use I get out of it is done from my phone (Samsung S5) and it is WAY easier to navigate. That being said it was a very large price difference between the models, and I was lucky to be in a good place for major purchases, so I went for it. AFAIK there's nothing wrong with the non-BT models, they do the major stuff very well.

After 2 years of use I too would say the GAP iiD tool is 100% worth it.

I used mine almost exclusively via the steering wheel for the first year since they didn't have an Android app at first. It's not super intuitive, but you can use it easily enough once you get the hang of it.

Now though I use it almost totally via my Samsung table. It is easier to navigate and certainly the 'preferred' method, but if money is tight I would much rather have a non-bluetooth version of the tool than NO tool.

Just as an update I will say the GAP tool was fantastic if you do a coolant flush for any reason. The 3 has a particularly complex cooling system so I was concerned about getting temps up.

Was able to use live values function for:

Coolant temp
Oil temp
Engine speed (RPM)
Fan speed (RPM)

This was super useful for troubleshooting and "burping" the coolant system.
10/10 was sure I was not going to cook an engine.

Default Help w/ IID BT!

Having a few issues and not sure what's normal if anyone has any info.
I've sent an email to Gap but they are closed now.
Just bought the BT version and using it on a recently purchased 06 LR3
I've updated the firmware on the tool - v3.0 and downloaded the latest app. I think I have followed all of the directions for hooking up the tool to update and I can see the tool on my iPhone 6 when it is in boot loader and plugged into the computer. I then disconnect from the tool in the app.
Then I go to my LR3 - start the engine in park - hook up the iiDTool - and all the warning lights come on and it gives a bunch of faults that were not there previously based on what my mechanic told me (is it running through the possible faults?). Nothing comes up on the Interface in the car (it gave me a transmission fault - that the cruise control was disabled - don't know if this was there before) and then I don't ever see the iidTool come up.
I open my app and search for devices and nothing ever comes up.
I don't see instructions for disconnect sequence - turn off car first or disconnect tool first or does it matter.
Afterwards my LR3 goes into full shutdown and won't turn on.
I give it a few tries and finally got it back to running.
Is it the vehicle, the tool, or the app.
I understand that if the cruise control buttons don't work - which I haven't tried as it's a new purchase - then the mobile app should still work - correct?
Any insights would be helpful.
thanks

I have no idea why the truck won't start after using the tool, but try this:

Connect the tool to the OBD port before putting key in ignition - then, don't start the truck, only turn the key until the ignition turns on (lights on dash).

Yeah I can't say I have encountered that whole issue.... BUT:

Yes schwaggy is right to recommend that. On rare occasions, maybe 5% of the time, if you turn the ignition to position II which turns the vehicle on without starting the engine, and insert the IID tool, it can trigger a few faults. I have gotten it to trigger a transmission fault, a suspension fault, HDC fault, no special programs, etc., and several combinations of all of those. Chalked it up to weird funky voltage and just the plug/tool being quirky. All I did to fix it was just go and clear all the faults and then go about what I was doing anyway.

If you insert the tool before turning the key to position II (before turning anything else on), I have never had any issues. I do have an annoying issue with how the device needs to be paired. I put the tool in, turn the key to pos. II, turn on bluetooth to my phone, click and pair to the tool, THEN start the GAP app, and click "search for tool". In that order. If I don't do that it has sometimes caused the app to freak out and lock up, and then the CPU on the phone freaks out as the app starts using way too much processing power. Its annoying but I have an android, not iOS device.

I'm sure you've tried this already but I should say:

1) update the tool with your computer with the newest version again
2) update or reinstall the app on your phone
3) inspect the OBD II port on the vehicle (hey it might have been dirty/other)
4) try inserting the tool BEFORE you turn the key, don't turn the engine on (usually not an issue, I have had the engine on and off many times)

BTW if you can't figure it out do email GAP about the issue. They have been really good about helping customers out.
