I've just developed an issue with the fuel system as well... message on dash says "fuel cap missing or loose"... have checked and it is tight. Same question as OP, is there another place it cold be detecting aleak from?
Thanx...

Thanx for the quick answer.... but what!? lol

Purge valve assembly doesn't sound like any fuel system component I've ever heard of.... is there a more common name, or even a location to investigate?

Yeah, it's a fuel system component. It's part of the vapor recovery system. I can't give you the full run down on what it does/how it works but basically it periodically pulls a vacuum on the gas tank and if it can't I can see how it might think the cap is missing. It lives up above the spare tire area and pretty much just looks like a bundle of plastic hoses/canisters IIRC.

Well, good news, it must have been a stored fault that was cured by a reset. I noticed that it's not too hard to get the gas cap cross threaded on these rigs...

Ah yes, the random code of mystery. Who among us hasn't experienced it? I believe the LR3 was designed to periodically throw a random code just to make sure the owner of the truck stays familiar with all systems. By throwing a code when nothing is truly wrong you are then prompted to learn diagnostic skills that may serve you well if/when something actually does break.

Cleaver that way, aren't they?

...either that or it's only the LR3s (not Disco 3s) with the "Phantom Faults." Call it Britain's Revenge!
