Default General consensus for brake pad/rotor replacement?

Fellow dudes and ladies(if there are any here), whats been the general path when replacing rotors & pads on the LR3?

I've seen it discussed in a few different threads, but didn't see an exclusive thread for the topic. Apologies if I overlooked it somewhere.

Seems some of upgraded the rotors to the RRS version. For those that have done it, have you been happy with them?

As for the pads, I just recently saw some discussion on using EBC Green/Yellow stuff. Have you gone the OEM or alternate route for your pads?

Thanks!

Yes-- I have quite a bit of experience.

Up till this point I have done and had reasonable luck with EBC Sports and Green Stuff. The last go around didn't go well.

After a lot of research I'm now using, and recommending Frozen Rotors Cryo.

The have three rotor types, standard, slotted and fully cross drilled and slotted. I went middle of the road. They should hold up better than the EBC ones.

Drop me a line w/e-mail if you want, I'll send them an intro e-mail and see if we can get you a deal of any kind.

No way would I do factory.

Why would you not do factory? That's all I've ever done in nearly 11 years of ownership and they've been great. I think a lot of the early wear of pads have to do with people's driving habits. I've routinely got 50k miles out of the stock pads and I've never had to replace my rotors due to wear from the pads. (I had an EPB issue once that wore the rear rotors, due to install error; dealer replaced free).

Pad wise I use the Akebono Euro ceramic pads on all my vehicles. They do a good job of stopping and there is no dust.

This ^

I paired the Akebono EUR1090 and EUR1099 with EBC GD1340 (rear) and GD 1339 (front) rotors and could not be happier.

I use factory rotors with Akebono pads front and rear and haven't had any problems on my LR3 and my D2. Also no brake dust and great wear

Yeah I became a fan of the Akebono Euro pads when I owned a Volvo S60. The brakes were good at stopping you but the dust from the OE pads . . . well let's just say a day or two after a wash the wheels already looked like they were painted black.

Will be doing mine next month and had just planned to pick up the kit from AB for all 4 corners (rotors and pads) for under $400. I love the comments about brake dust tho.. its an LR3... its supposed to be dirty

This what I use as well. I've noticed that stopping power may not be quite was it was with the factory pads, but it's not anything that bothers me. I will say that initially, stopping power was noticeably worse, but once you get through the "bedding layer" of the akebono pads, then they begin to feel more like stock. Wear is much better (i.e. they're lasting longer than OEM pads) and they have virtually no brake dust.

My personal experience here, is that the rotors last about 20k. For twice the price, I can do rotors that do 80-100k vs the O. The math works for me. Not every seems to share the same experience, I'm in a city.
