hitch storage

some people leave them on, some take them off. Here in Minnesota, if you leave them on, they may not come off. I am always bumping my legs on them and it makes for some nasty bruises or worse. On my D1 I stick it under the front seat drivers side in the compartment. (manual seats) or it gets tossed in the back if I plan on using it again soon.

I wrapped mine in some rags and stored it there with the blower motor. Until I bought a trailer. Then I got tired of taking it apart to stow it away. Now I just leave the ball mount and the hitch connected, but I take it out and store it in the garage. When I get a trailer tongue tool box, I will leave it in there. Only down side to not storing it on-board is that IF you run across a need for it away from home, then you don't have it or have to go get it.
Nice job!
I had this tool box set up in mine for a while. Now I am thinking to use the drawer slides, but build a smaller version of your drawers. Perhaps they would only be as tall as the back seats when folded down, to create a flat floor without having to go to the second step of dropping the folded seats into the floor.
The drawer(s) would be good storage for recovery gear, tools, tie down straps, and, of course, a tow hitch and ball mount.
I put mine in a red Husky tool bag and store it in my drawers
