Hey guys,

We always harp on what's broken and how to fix it here with our LR3s -- Thought you might like to break up the monotony with a short fun video of my LR3 in the woods last weekend.

Enjoy!

Looks like those 33-12.50s got a little comfortable with the door trim at the end. I've been lucky on my 33s so far, but I'm not quite that wide (275/70-18 Cooper STT Pro on stock wheels)

But I do have a bone to pick - you labeled that video as Florida, yet it appears that you're on a hill. Must be a trick of the camera, because I've been to Florida and the only hills I've see are the highway overpasses.

Yep, the tires continue to catch the plastic -- I have trimmed and trimmed -- it's way better than it was, but still clearly not done yet.

As for the location...

Nice....I had no idea there was a Florida in the NE. I think I like that one better than the one in the south.

I have a friend out here running 33x12.50s on his coiler and he's planning to put 35s on it. I'm not sure exactly how he's going to make that work but he has a sawzall and knows how to use it. I think he's just gave up on the fender trim some time ago. Of course, he's got a ton of home-brew lift on that thing - I'm amazed his CVs are still alive.

Lucky8 has put 35s on theirs. I'm tempted to drive the 8hrs to go see it... I'm not calling them liars, as anything can be done with enough money and hammers, but honestly I do not consider my 33's fitting, and I can't imagine having another inch shoved into that rear wheel arch...

Honestly, if my tire of choice came in a 32, I would have done that.

You're right!! We need more of this stuff on these boards! Plus, builds and mods! Who cares if it's been done before! If you just did it, post it! It keeps the rest of us motivated and entertained when we aren't doing it! Well done, and thanks!

I guess most of my mods were done before I started reading this board, so I mainly come here talking about repairs. I did put my Rubicon trip story up here (I think) but don't generally do write-ups for normal trips. Maybe I'll try to work on that.

As for tire size, I might go back smaller on my next set as well. Hopefully by then I'll have my RRC built to take over the serious trails since the LR3 really isn't at home doing that sort of stuff no matter what mods you throw at it. Plus the MTs are heavier, louder, etc and make it less enjoyable to drive on the long-hauls and get worse mileage. My current thinking is maybe a set of 275/65-18 ST-Maxx or KO2s but we'l have to wait and see.

I would post videos but most of mine are short....like me taking on single obstacles. Anyway, I think 35s would be ridiculous. Did they re-gear?

Default Okay I'll play

This was a few years ago. This hill had just claimed a coil spring out of a P38...and other than the driver of an International Scout, everyone else chickened out after the P38 lost the spring. I decided to un-chicken out...

I wish there was a re-gear option, but none that I know of. You can go the other way, as the LR4 and the diesels all have taller gearing, but i don't think there is a shorter gear set available. I know I could certainly use it with the 33s - it would be a real issue with 35s.

I understand; I doubt there are more than a couple dozen guys running 33s or bigger on these things. How much market would there be? About the only way it makes sense if if by some chance we share the same diff with another platform.
