Default How was this hole made? 4.0 SOHC teardown

I was tearing down my 4.0 sohc and when I pulled the jackshaft retainer I found a marble sized hole. I'm really just curious what would cause this hole? Its such a thin area of cast iron. Has anyone ever seen this?

Dear god. I hate to see cars where owners never changed the oil.

idk what the hole is or how it got there. Looks more like a factory casting hole since the hole looks too round for something to have gone through the block etc

I was going to try originally. Im trying to source a used one now, its proving difficult. I don't mind using a ranger or explorer engine, But I worry about fabricating the mounts.
