If it's LHD, the best place to put it is directly behind the driver as it won't affect visibility too much (unless the driver does a full 180* turn of his head).
You can not put some ladders on both sides. Here is a pic of mine from Atlantic British.
If you want the other ladder instead (the one for the left side) good luck finding it. I think they were discontinued
