2) Land Rovers Only at https://www.landroversonly.com/forum...ne-lr3-145002/ and 3) Disco3.co.uk at https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/lr3-4...ct-181793.html . The posts were similar to those in this forum but there are some differences, especially in the Explorer Forum, where those people had a significant influence on our decision to use a pre-oiler system to pressurize those hydraulic tensioners before engine start. Am very happy with all the advice and support we received in all the forums, and hope this information is helpful to others in the future.

Ford Motorcraft WPT-1231 Plug on Engine Oil Temperature Sensor
2nd LR3 knock sensor on Ranger engine
Die grinder used to hollow out red area on mount, then use a milled washer behind as a spacer and insert mount bolt
Just a few photos I found which explain a few things in a bit more detail.

Just a quick update, we had -43C temperatures in the early morning a few days ago, Lone Ranger started no problems (block heater was plugged in for 2 hours), and so far there are no huge issues. Will definitely be looking at the sunroof drain issue on the passenger side when weather gets better, and examining a EPROM reader and programmer to check out the M35080 EPROM in the ECM, starting to wonder if that is the cause of a mysterious sudden acceleration event when you are standing on the brakes at a stop, in Drive and the engine is cold. Never ever happens at any other time, but has happened twice to me so I now put the machine in Neutral at every stop and it has never happened again. Very strange, but anyway, that's my update on the engine swap to date after 10,408 Km (6,467 miles).

Instructions for Using Ford Cologne V6 Replacement
Just another update, for instructional information regarding using a Ford Cologne V6 engine to replace your Land Rover Cologne V6, go to https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr...4-0l-v6-99856/ and look at Post #3. Also, read https://landroverforums.com/forum/en...-thread-63211/ for a very detailed look at what's involved in an LS engine conversion.

Hi, Im a newbe to this forum and like you enb54 have just picked up a 2005 Disko 3 with a blown motor, This thread is like gold to me as I'm from the land down under Sydney Aus and we don't have the supply of 4L V6 motors or parts you do in the US. Ford and Landrover here have stopped stocking most of the parts to rebuild these Calogne motors so my option are few, thanks for takin us through your journey. I have decided to rebuild my motor and this is what I found when it was striped down: 1. Right bank camshaft was bent (replaced with one from a 1998 Explorer motor) 2. 6 bent inlet valves ( replaced with a new set), 3. right and left chain guides broken (replaced with a Cloyes 9-0398SB Chain Kit). The motor has over 350K on it so I decided to fit new piston rings (Hastings Piston Ring Set Std) (there are 3 different size ring sets for this motor), I replaced the conrod bearings (new set Std). We decided to removed the motor the conventional way and left the body on the chassis its a bit more time consuming but is ok, the motor is going back in this week, so I hope there is no unexpected problems. its interesting to note that these motors are getting a bad rap, and as there were over 3 million of these built and a lot of the vehicles that I've seen advertised here have traveled over 200k+ on the original timing chains. To my way of thinking to remove the motor every 200K and refurbish as per Fords recomendations (before it explodes), Im expecting to get another 200Ks out of my rebuild. I would also like to hear from other member that have used the Chinese kits how they have preformed.

Hi Rocksaw, the people who have rebuilt the Cologne V6 and talked about it on here are 5280LR3, DerChamp, myself and several others I can't recall offhand. You would be well advised to look at YouTube for "FordTechMakuloco" videos on exactly how to replace the timing chains/gears and correctly re-time this engine, plus read over the thread on this forum " https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr...4-0l-v6-99856/ " which gives you some more detailed instructions on engine removal and replacement on the V6 Cologne LR3 (D3). Good luck, this forum and the Ford Explorer forum were a great help and lots of good advice from all participants, have put on over 50,000 Km since the transplant and all is still good...
I would use OEM Ford gears and chains or quality aftermarket like Cloyes, you don't want to have to pull the engine again because of unknown quality issues...
By the way, Alberta is in Canada, but the border is closed right now to non-essential traffic...

Thanks for for your response, I have had previous experience with the 4L V6, seven years ago I installed new head gaskets on a 2006 Ford Courier, I timed the motor without using the timing kit as there were none available here in Aus, the truck is still going strong with 210k on it, this will be my next big project and I have a remanufactured discovery motor to fit in it so this will be the reverse to what you have done. Thanks again for your insightful help.

4L V6 Disco dancing
I hope you get to fulfil your plans to see WA, it’s a huge state and there’s lots to see. I’ve only flown over less than half of it in a jetliner and that took six hours. In the extreme south it snows in the winter and at the same time of the year in the north 90+deg, the colder months would be a better time to go, it can get very nasty in the summer around Broom the weather there is unpredictable similar to that Florida.
