Only because I don't understand the complications of over fill but, I replace the oil in the front diff 2x so far and once in the rear. The front @ 95 and 105. The rear @ 105. @ 95 The front was dark and the drain plug was full of metal fur. @105 it was dark and just a little fur. The rear was super black and I could actually see the metal flakes in the oil.
I just filled them with Mobil 1 Syn gear oil and filled until it came out the hole. Am I missing something serious or is this another LR engineering Vs real world thing? You know - measure and refill, although, nothing bad fill happen if filled to the fill hole.
Oh Yeah, I started replacing the oil in the front because I felt a slight grind/whin. It really didn't go away with the oil change, but it surely needed changing. I'm now changing every 2nd oil change.

Hi unseenone,
Can't PM, as this is my first post! I'm also in Austin, and own a 2006 V8 SE LR3. For a couple of years it's had some driveline noise that varies with road speed, not engine speed. It seems to be getting slowly worse. How can I narrow this down to a specific area? I suspect one of the differentials, but it's hard to prove. Also, do you have a good shop here in town that you'd recommend for diff / gearbox work?
Thanks!

I asked a dealer tech that same question and he said he always fills lr3 until it pours out, and has never had one come back. He says that BMW powered L322 range rovers will puke oil out the breather of the front diff if you fill them that way. Perhaps that's why the manual says to not do it.

Well I did the back rear yesterday, it took less then 1 1/2 qts not overflowing, probly closer to 1 1/4 it was humming some and had little fluid in it and a leaking pinion seal
Still need to do the front , guess I need to do the transfer case too
50k mile vehicle and **** is bad, pathetic ESP. For what these cost new
