Default LR3 Needs performance boost at 7000' + ColdAir Intake?

Hello folks,
Couple years ago I bought 2007 LR3 w/4.4L V8.
I live at high altitude CO SPGS. Towing my trailer over mountain passes is a bit of a chore. So, I'd like improve performance. Does any of you know of a cold air intake system (like the K&N system) that actually fits this vehicle? What was your experience? On another note, I'm thinking of changing the chip. Any experience/advice is appreciated.
Cheers,
Jim

The LR3 already has cold air intake.

What chip?

Hey Dakota,
I've only looked online for chips.
Here is one I have noticed, but I have no experience with these guys; https://performancechipsusa.com/land...formance-chip/
SummitRacing sold me a MAF from Jet that seems to work on my 2007 LR3 4.4

Anyone have a better idea?

I don't think I would ever toss at $60 "chip" on my LR3.

The MAF may help if it lies about the air volume coming in, cause thats all it does. So if it says less air is coming in you can sorta richen the mixture. Problem is the O2 sensors will just adjust it out. But if your MAF is old and worn, a new one may help anyway.

Really a custom tune might be the best bet - assuming you have done all other maintenance.

Hey Dakota,
The MAF from JET looks like the OEM unit. concerned I call JET and they explained that they put in new electronics that boost performance. When I asked how, they said it is their proprietary secret sauce! So, I decided to try anyway. On a recent trip to Denver International Airport my console said I was getting above 25 mpg in some places.

What is a custom tune, who does one, and what is involved. It may be the right thing. I maintain regularly.

Secret sauce? hehe

Custom tune would be with a shop with a dyno that runs the vehicle and monitors outputs to optimize ECU response specific to your vehicle and how you want it to perform. Shop around for some place local. If you are getting 25mpg, that's way over spec and it seems like its running fine.

Great Advice about the dyno tune shop!

I'm still looking for a cold air intake for my LR3 4.4V8. By any chance is stock air intake for the Range Rover Sport the same set up as an LR3? If so, then there may be options available that could fit my vehicle,

Cheers

Well like I said, it already had a cold air intake. Don’t see how it could be improved.

I wonder if a Range Rover Sport supercharger could be fit? I doubt a dyno run & tune is going to make up HP at our elevation. I just downshift when going up a hill.

Default Cold Air Intake

Hi Dakota & 5280LR3,

Here's the cold air intake concept I'd like to use. Since it is a smooth system, it should improve performance, at least that's what the vendors say! Cheers, Jimbo
