Yeah, I know just a little [sm=icon_stickpoke.gif] there. Afterall I did decide on the Silent Armors, after your initial post moons ago and couldn't agree more with your assessment (though the Coopers were the strong second)

Too bad there isn't Ord to go play at anymore, but you could always cruise out to Barstow for some fun in the sand by the Whale Tale, just look out for those tortoises.

Hmm, almost 20 mph around town (I need a head blowing up smilee) never would have thought it. I'll definitely have to try that out. More money to the ARB bull bar fund.
Thanks, next time I'm out CA ways, and if you're in the LA area I'll owe you one. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]

Jantiz,

Have you posted any photos of your LR3 with the Silent Armours installed? If you are able to, I'd really like to see how the look on the vehicle and how much the fill out the wheel well with the suspension at normal height since they are a bit bigger than the stock tire.

Jantiz,

Have you ever posted any photo's of the Silent Armours mounted on your LR3? I'm interested in getting a set, but really wanted to see how they looked first, particularly how they fill the wheel wells since they are larger than stock sizes.

I could never figure out how to shrink my pictures to load them when I did try. However, try following this link to another member's pictures of his LR3 with Silent Armours.

Thanks for the link. I do like the way the Silent Armor's look on the LR3.

I actually went to the Goodyear store to purchase a set on Saturday, however they gave me some warnings about using these tires on my LR3 that made me a bit concerned. I will be the first to admit I'm probably getting way too conservative in my old age, but I remember all the fuss with Ford Explorers rolling over with Firestone tiresa few years ago, andmaking a change that might adversely affect the emergency handling or load carrying capacity, and ultimately the safetyofmy LR3is somethingthat should warrant careful consideration.

The guy at Goodyear said that 1st, going with 265/65/18's is probably a bit too big of a tire andrecommended going with nothing bigger than 265/60/18, which is just a 1/2" wider and 1/2" taller than the stock tires. I don't need great big tires, so that is fine wiht me and Goodyear even had this size in stock.

Nexthowever, he said that the Silent Armor's haveonly a 188 MPH, Tspeed rating, but Land Rover puts 149 MPH V rated tires on as standard equipment. Of course I have no plans to get up to 149 MPH, much less 118MPH, but that is a pretty big drop in capability and as thisoften implies a less stiff side wall,I'm concernedthat this might affect emergency handlingof the LR3 and perhaps make it more likely to roll over in a crash. Also, the Silent Armor's also are rated for about 10% load carrying capacity per tire.

As I said, 10 years ago I would not have given this a second thought, but I've got a family riding with me now. Any thoughts as I definitely would like a better set of tires than what LR provided standard, and there has not been a bad word said about the Silent Armor's I could find anywhere in the forum.

I think you might be over thinking this.

The SA 265/65/18 are 1.5 inches larger diameter then the stock. That translates into 3/4 of an inch higher off the ground then stock, I have them and they are great, family and all, and I corner pretty hard.

The SA 265/60/18are only 1/2 in larger diameter then stock translatingto only a 1/4 inch taller off the ground.

I would find it hard to believe that 1/4 inch or 3/4 of an inch to be enough to cause any major instability on a vehicle that is able to handle a greater angle before rolling as the Land Rovers do. In my oppinion both are better then the stock regardless of the rating.

I use the 265/60 right now. Because they were specifically designed to handle off road use, the side walls are in fact sturdier than the factory H/P's, while still giving you a more comfortable ride. They are right about the load ratting on the 265/60 being one step lower than recommended by the dealer however I can attest to using them hard, with a full load of people and equipment under extreme conditions and they performed exceptionally. If load rating is ever a concern, just step up to the 265/65 or buy the Silent Armours "Heavy Duty" line. Either one covers the factory quoted ratings; and don't let them tell you that using 265/65 creates a stability problem. I have found that a lot of these guys at tire shops mean well, but are very limited in real life information about tires basically quoting what the computer tells them to say.

Experience from owners that actually use them speaks volumes. I have had mine for 34k miles now and continue to be amazed at the quality every day.

Thanks for the feedback. I do agree I'm probably overthinking this.
