LR3 Overhead Cam Pitted Failure
#2
Never heard of that one, although it could be. I don't understand why, assuming it has had all normal maintenance. If the cam is pitted, I would be skeptical as to what else might be an issue.
What is the engine in this?
What lubricants have been used?
How did they come to that determination?
What symptoms where you experiencing?

LR3 2006 4.0 V6
Land Rover did oil changes
Scope and finally took it apart.
Car would not start about 4 months ago. Took it to British Performance Mission Viejo. Said it was a valve. Replaced valve. Now 5 months later it stalls on the free way with engine light on. Other issue Air compressor went out.

It now appears that the oil has not been changed for 30,000 miles. The tubes that supply oil are no longer working and also need to be replaced. How does someone know when to change the oil on a 2006 LR3 with a 4.0 engine. I am looking at the book and it says it has a message center. Should this show any messages for oil change?

Yikes!
How is that possible? For the average driver, that would be 2 years of driving with no oil changes!
On the 4.4 V8, the oil changes are recommended every 7,500 miles. I would imagine the 4.0 V6 would be the same, but you should check your owner's manual. The message center on the LR3 doesn't remind you about oil changes, BUT when starting the vehicle, the odometer will briefly indicate when your next service is due (or even overdue) I believe in days.

It sort of sounds like there is a disconnect here between the dealer and the owner. Are you the original owner? Perhaps if this is the case, and it has been 30k since oil change, then a engine flush is in order to start (bg? ) If you've having this many issues pop up, then I would start to consider an engine swap, which might be cheaper in the long run (v8? ) I do not believe there is a real difference on service intervals on V6 vs V8.
