LR3 transmission fluid cross refrence
Hello, Looking at local options in my limited area to purchase ZF 6speed tranny fluid for my 4.4V8 2005 LR3. Google told me that some ford trucks have the ZF 6speed (some F350 and F450 models). I called the dealer and they sell fluid for those trucks. So I'm trying to find out if this is suitable for my V8 LR3. MerconLV-CXT10LV6 ? I'm guessing the answer is "no" but figured I'd ask before ordering online.

No.
This horse has been beat to death on this one, so not worries here ya go. There is one North America option. Shipping might hurt. The following link is only an example. I bought my 12 quart case for $90 shipped a while back. Still, MUCH cheaper than Lifeguard 6. I am not the only one who runs it, many other do. And this fluid was analyzed and pretty much proven to be the same spec as LG6, the story is simply that when Ford bought LR and Jag, they wanted to produce fluid domestically for servicing the vehicles. If you Google this fluid and the transmission, you can find the info, analysis and proof.

Ford switched from Mercon SP to Mercon LV around 2010. You can still get SP, but the inventories are getting low and the prices are going up. I bought ZF LG6 for about the same price as the SP that was linked to Amazon —something to keep in mind.
I haven’t looked into the fluid compatibility, but what Dakota said checks out, being that the Ford 6R80 is a licensed copy of the ZF 6HP26. Continuing that line of thought, the Mercon LV is probably fine since it was going into the 6R80 from 2010 on.
edit: see post further down for more. Ford continued to use SP in their ZF 6HP26 applications and LV in the 6R80 (ZF 6hp clone) starting in 2009.

Also do you have a link showing that LV is the same comparable fluid as LG6? Nice to have info like that, especially since I have not heard of it before. More options for fluid is always better.

This took me a while to dig up, but here’s the best I can provide, and note that it is not definitive for the ZF:

Ford recommends LV for the 6R80 clone. However, they apparently used the ZF 6HP26 (not the 6R80 clone, a true ZF) in Lincoln Navigators and that vehicle calls for SP, and it looks like Ford specified to maintain with SP after they switched most of their lineup to LV. So, if I were to go aftermarket, I would go with SP as well.
That all said, SP doesn’t seem to be the deal it once was. Amazon and the box stores seem to be charging up to $14/L for it. True ZF 6 is available for $15.60 (below).
