Default LR3 Transmission Pan Replacement

My 06 LR3 has the transmission connector sleeve leaking and needs a sleeve replacement soon. The indy shop closest to me has given me a quote for $800 for new pan , filter , fluid and sleeve.

I was reading about this issue and it seems a lot of people has moved to the metal pan due to the ease of change of filter and removal. I am good with tools and mechanically inclined and wanted to know if this job can be a DIY and if it can be done without a lift?

The pan kit is around 350, so it might not be too far out of line, the fluid is also expensive. Bear in mind, you lose a quart of fluid capacity, so the should be sure and follow the proper filling / checking procedures. It's a good upgrade, I've done it.

They can save time and your money by cutting the neck off the old filter, which will eliminate the need to raise things up to get the old pan out.

The indy shop is going to replace it with the OEM pan and filter. I was thinking about getting the metal pan and doing it myself. Just wasn't sure how complicated it is and if it is a DIY job.

Had mine done a couple of months ago. I was quoted $700 and charged about $760, I figured that it must have been tax. Works great. I would be tough without a lift. I seemed like a pain with the lift. I hadn't heard about the neck cutting procedure, might have been a good thing to do. Dang. Phil

Side-question: Is the metal pan worth losing the extra quart of fluid/capacity?

Since nobody has responded to the last question I'll have a go at it. The answer is YES it's worth the loss in oil capacity by converting to the metal pan because you're making it easier and less costly for all future pan/filter replacements. Now you'll be able to change the oil/filter more often and save money too.

I now have a question. In the future does one need to replace the metal pan too or can one just replace the filter only? Are the 21 torx bolts re-usable?

You can just change the pan gasket, and the filter. You should be able to reuse the bolts with no problem. I have the metal pan, happy so far.

I wouldn't want to do it without a lift, but someone who is ambitious could pull it off.

Any recommendations on where to get the tranny kit (metal pan, filter, gasket, and bolts)? The only options I know of directly are from Brit Part in the UK, cost around $280 - $300 which one can purchase through Atlantic British here in the USA.
