Steering saga... So my lower bound up again after 100k miles. Put a new one in. Then on a technical trail with lots of movement between body and frame I was hearing a loud metal on metal sharp knock and occasional squeaks from under the main steering column in the cabin. I found my intermediate shaft was bent or damaged a bit. Found out by rotating steering wheel and seeing where the shaft comes out of the firewall was going in a circular motion, not spinning on its axis. So I have a new OEM intermediate shaft to put in but it does not come with the upper u-joint. I suspect the u-joint is the source of some play/wondering and the noises.
Below are two pics. One is the main column and these can be had cheap, so no worries if I have to just do the whole thing. But the other pic is of one more broken down. And you can see a section of shaft with the joint is missing. Wondering if just that is swappable? Or just the joint?
