Default LR3 V6 with heavy duty package?

So I am looking for an LR3 with v6 (I am a mechanic and I have experience with it and consider it a superior engine) but I also want the locking rear diff, I have been looking for several months and I haven't found any but I have found at least a dozen v8's with the locking diff. I am beginning to wonder was it even an option or is it just very rare?

Yes, it was available, but it is also rare, even on a V8 it's not that common of an option.

I very much disagree with the V6 being a better engine, if nothing else then in this truck at least.

It's a better than 5000 pound vehicle. You might be more comfortable working with the Ford engine, but I'm sure you'll like driving the Jag V8 better. Also at some point they stopped offering the V6, so you'll be limited to older LR3. The newer ones probably have more of the bugs worked out, especially in the software.

What kind of shop do you work at? If it's a ford franchise you might have experience with an older variation of the V8, because the Lincoln LS had it. I'm sure they continue to improve it along the way.

Hi, I certainly would prefer a V8 over the V6, there is no mpg benefit so why would you prefer that engine?

I was fortunate and got the Heavy Duty package on my V8 05 LR3.

We have an e-diff ready differential, which can be fitted on a vehicle with an open diff. This does not give you a locker, but we are working (in testing now) a e-diff conversion kit, which would include the wiring, electronics and bits required to convert to a full locker.

It is coming, hopefully in the next few months.

Cool. How much is just the diff, and how much do you think the full kit will be?

I did not know the LS had the same family of engine. I did not see many of them, but I certainly did not hear anything bad about them either...

You have my attention. Is this an full aftermarket kit, or is it an upgrade to the LR stock locker for non-locker LR3s? Because if it is full aftermarket...the front diff needs some love too

Yep, the LS and also the Thunderbird. I think they were only 3.9L instead of 4.4L, and the first couple of years didn't have variable cam timing.

The diff itself is an upgraded stock locker. The upgrade consists of a custom crown wheel & pinion, as well as OE bearings, seals, etc. The gear set is stronger, quieter and better made than the stock gears.

Can't really pin down a price on the conversion kit until it's fully sorted.

Feel free to PM me with your e-mail address, and i'll drop you an e-mail, etc.

The e-diff ready can be fitted to a vehicle with a non-locker, no modifications needed it just won't lock. You can also use this as a replacement for the locker by transferring your locker motor.

We have designed but not done a production run on the front gears, as it requires a fairly significant size production run. The rear gears are more of a problem, with noise, strength and so on. Hopefully we will get there.

Have a guesstimate of when the price will be "pin ed downed"? Or when the kit would be available? Thanks!!

It's in testing now. Hopefully in the next couple of months.
