Greetings gents,
About 6 months ago I installed the map update. All has been well since then but in the recent weeks, I am getting a Map/DVD read error on the nav system. The 4x4 screen works just fine. The map will pop up for a few seconds then go back to the error message. I haven't tried reinstalling the old dvd but any suggestions as to what may be causing the error?

 

check the disc for scratches?
Try a hard or soft reset of all systems?

 

I agree. I would think this is probably caused by a bad disc (either a disc degrading over time or a scratched disc) or possibly by a dirty lens in the DVD unit itself.
