Default Motor issues with Sunroof - 2008 LR3

This is not a post and bail, lol.. I've been meaning to join the forum for some time now, and hopefully can contribute some useful content.

I'm having an odd issue with my sunroof after storing over the winter months. I know, these are a lot of fun in winter however I can't deal with the salt anymore. Regarding storage, I did not disconnect the battery. I simply connected a battery tender to maintain. The only fuse I pulled was for the air suspension so that it didn't self adjust all winter long. During a road trip, I attempted to open the sunroof and got no response, nothing... I ignored until I got home and then jumped on the interwebs. I noted some information from this forum on a reset procedure, which I attempted to do. Upon holding the switch down for 20+ seconds the motor fired up, however, to my poor ears, all I could hear was grinding... I kept the switch pressed for a few seconds longer just in case something needed to align, however no luck.

The sunroof never moved during this procedure. I assume it's safe to say that power is still being sent to the control module and motor. My assumption is that I need a new motor? I see from the repair procedure that it's not terrible to do. Has anyone had experience with this or a very similar issue. I would like to know that once the motor is replaced this issue will be resolved. Also, is it possible the sunroof is stuck or not aligned correctly? I have no reason to believe this is the case. The only thing I can think of is, I did polish the top of the vehicle late last year with a machine polisher. I've polished before and detail vehicles so I know what I'm doing. I didn't put any kind of pressure on it, just the weight of the machine. Just a thought... Hopefully it's just a motor thing. Any suggestions on where to get another for a reasonable price?

I see that you didn't receive any responses. I have the same issue, same LR3 year. Can I please ask whether you were able to resolve the problem, and how?

I removed the glass panel and cleaned out the tracks and lubed then when i was having trouble with the sunroof getting stuck open, i heard a worrying kinda snap which turned out to be a stick.

Not yet, unfortunately. I've been replacing and fixing a few other things that were more of a priority. My plan is to purchase a used motor from Rover Land Parts https://www.roverlandparts.com/2005-...oof-motor.aspx as this seems like an affordable rout to take. If I do this I will definitely post the results. I'm trying to work out something with the AC as it's not blowing cold on the passenger side. Once I have that resolved I'm going to tackle this. If you get yours fixed first, please let us know.

Yes, I ended up replacing the motor, which fixed the issue.
