New vehicle new thread

05 lr3 se 50k miles sitting since 2009, needs a little body work but clean to reflect the miles

Pic before I mess with it

Lots done today

I swapped the silver grill with the dark grey from the 06,
swapped in the hid projection headlights from the 06
Installed running boards from 06
Installed the 3rd row seats from 06 with the rear side impact airbags
Swapped lower tailgate
Hood shocks
Heavy rubber mat set from 06

The vehicle was pre wired for the 3rd row air bags, all the holes are there to add the 3rd row seats,

not pre wired for satillite radio antenna pod ( I don't care ), not pre wired for parking assist, or front off road lights, not pre wired for the d pillar speakers or all those aux radio jacks we did not want

So basicly the se model is more what we wanted with just a few items off the hse

I also will not be adding rear a/c, I have pics of the 06 hse stripped out if anyone needs to see what's there

TOM R 10-02-2014 12:34 PM

got the tail light stone guards installed from the 06, swapped the 18" rims with dry rotted tires for the 19" rims with good tires

got the brush guard pulled off the 06

TOM R 10-03-2014 04:16 PM

got the brush bumper swapped over, found I have a pinion leak on rear diff and was missing a driveshaft bolt, pulled the rear bumper cover to swap it and saw how bad the bumper was under it and reinstalled the bad cover for now

btw are those big ass weights on the back of the frame really necessary?

thorgal 10-03-2014 07:01 PM

Those big ass things are harmonies balancers or resonators and help with chassis vibrations and torsional movement while driving, so don't get rid of it yet...

That looks great Tom! The dark grill looks much better on the silver truck.

TOM R 10-04-2014 07:17 AM

Thanks, that bar is a dealer option, the tech I know installed quite a few so he's gonna help me pull the harness for those lights and reinstall in mine

Funny thing is the silver grill looks fine on the dark grey 06

Adding the rear curtain airbags has turned on the airbag lite

He tried to reset the lite but it comes back, the lr3 ecm is telling his laptop additional airbags detected and it cannot seem to be reset, tried reprogramming but it would not take

We have a slight high speed vibration he thinks is nothing

And a noise in the back we are thinking is the park brake shoes making noise like dragging some on rust from sitting, I got to get on a lift to be sure

TOM R 10-04-2014 07:22 AM

The 05 is not pre wired for park assist

It is pre wired for the 3rd from airbags, and 12 v power socket at the back on the drivers side, it is also pre wired for the driving lights in the bumper, the bumper has the brackets and there is a outline on the inside where to cut, I was going to do this but my dremel broke

Even though I have the additional off road package and the nav shows an unlocked padlock in the center and in the back I do not appear to have the rear locking diff best we can tell, I have a big ass spare but it is on a steel rim not aluminum like the HD comes with

jokarover 10-07-2014 01:46 PM

Wow, with the headlights did you have to do anything special? Are they the headlights that swivel when you turn?. We're the third row seats difficult to install?

TOM R 10-07-2014 05:51 PM

3rd row was a day taking apart 2 vehicles and reassemble both but I also added the airbags which has turned on the airbag lite, rover tech tried a reset and reprogram to get rid of it but no luck

You need to drive in the seat bolts with an impact gun the holes are there but unthreaded and the bolts are self threading, don't forget the seat belts

Now the airbag lite has a chance of being turned off but the tech would have to take it to work and call rover engineering for the master unlock for my vin and I would have to pay dealer price for that

The headlights simple plug in, they do not appear to move

taylor15 10-08-2014 07:04 AM

Will you consider taking the third row airbags out? Or is there enough value there to have the dealer set the computer? I didn't realize the 3rd row would bolt in, that's good to know for future purposes!

Also, this isn't going to replace the D1 I hope..

TOM R 10-08-2014 07:29 AM

Nope this is wife's new dd

If I can't get the lite out I may just unplug them, the computer actually tells him they are not supposed to be there

taylor15 10-08-2014 11:43 AM

With the computer denying their existence, would try even deploy in an accident?

I would say no - specifically because the computer doesn't just "trigger" them all at once, it detects many different things in different areas of the vehicle before deciding what to do. Are there different sensors in the rear of the LR3 for 3rd row occupants as well?

TOM R 10-08-2014 03:39 PM

No the fault just states the extra airbags are detected, there see no sensor faults

TOM R 10-08-2014 09:24 PM

Got the rear steel bumpers pulled off both and welded the good one on the 05

Found that both the big vibration weights were unbolted laying on the frame guess they were not doing much except making noise

Here's some pics, 05 was hit in rear in 2009 on carfax this was under the bumper skin, other pic is the 06 with bumper removed, this was not as hard as I thought, the frame and bumper are only 1/8" steel it is a frigging joke

TOM R 10-09-2014 08:24 AM

This is why you run a vin check guy wanted 10k for this 50k mile 05 I ran a carfax on the spot showed him and crawled under saw the damage and pointed it out, he knew it and was not gonna tell me, this made it a $5k rover

The 06 I ran a vin check it was fine no reported wrecks

If I did not have the 06 sitting here she could have drove it how it was I am just ocd on car stuff and want it to be right, sucks neither came with the hitch although the 05 bumper would have fell off lol

TOM R 10-09-2014 05:24 PM

2 Attachment(s)
Pic of bumper welded on and finished product properly resembled

Now if I want we can get a hitch adapter and tow, also now no worries of being rear ended with an already crushed bumper

Fixed that and blew out the pass side hvac drain just in case it was clogged

Now need to figure out the radio and nav cutting out nav is a new issue radio was very intermittentnow no sound at all

TOM R 10-16-2014 10:42 AM

serviced rear diff it is humming and leaking from pinion seal, oil was contaminated, blew out vent line refilled with royal purple max gear 75w/90, no locker

sucks at 50k miles it already has a bad rear diff

serviced front rear, oil was clean and new, no leaks refilled with the royal purple max gear 75w/90

2 qts seemed to fill em both

serviced transfer case fluid looked pretty clean, 1.5 qts royal purple synchromax

replaced transmission mount, it was broken and looks like it was that way for a loooong time

Air pump bracket broken so got that changed out, pump looks brand new guess the box works well, now pump is super quiet barely hear it running

Got the park brake shoes replaced and adjusted, drivers side had no lining just the metal shoes and they were dragging on the drum, my buddies put it in service mode and all is adjusted

Think I have the nav fixed,, tried swap out the disc, then the nav computer, and finally the screen

Screen seemed to fix it, guess I will know in a few days if it's fixed

radio has now decided it wants to work lol

TOM R 10-27-2014 08:16 PM

well got the driveshaft heat shield installed , it was missing

added 2nd row heated seat buttons, just need to swap the seat this is prewired

added the console refrigerator, also prewired

added the puddle lamps on the bottom of the 4 doors, also pre wired just cut the door panels

TOM R 10-27-2014 08:38 PM

fridge install

ok this is easy to do

block wheels

put shifter in neutral, pull up and twist on shifter handle it pops off

there is a screw in front of the park brake lever, it can be Phillips or torx, remove it

flip open console lid, remove the rubber mat under the ashtray area

now grab and pull up the top of the console on the sides where the top and bottom halves meet it is hard to remove but will come off

you can now lift it high enough to get past the shifter stalk and rotate it clockwise 90* , the wiring is tight so be careful, I unplugged it all to get the cover off all the way

there are 3 plugs; park brake, shift lights, off road selector ( this one was hard to remove had to use a screwdriver to ease it out)

now there are 2 screws in the front one on each side at front of the glove box ( see pic)

next put both front seats forward, take a torx remove both console lid hinge bolts, and the hinge caps ( see pic)

now grab the cubby box and pull up hard it has clips on bottom

last locate the fridge plug, it will have a piece of foam wrapped around it, drop in the fridge and reverse procedure

see the grey foam near the driver seat belt that the plug just ditch the foam and untape it from the harness to get slack

TOM R 10-27-2014 08:49 PM

1 Attachment(s)
now if you want to remove the rear panel on the console this is the time to do it since the cubby hides this screw, unscrew it and pull straight back on the rear panel it will come off

the plugs are under there for the rear heated seat buttons they are green but covered in foam
