I bought a 2009 LR3 (Disco 3) a while back and it had a check engine light on. 120K miles. Codes indicated it was likely the VVT actuator on Bank 1. I had a mechanic I’ve used on other European cars to diagnose, and he agreed. The actuator was replaced with a Land Rover OEM new part and it’s still throwing the same code. The mechanic said he thinks it’s the timing chain sprocket that’s been deformed. Said it’s an engine out (or cab off) job and too much for him to do and too expensive. I may end up digging into it myself, but I’d like to take it to a mechanic that really knows these cars to make sure of what it might be and maybe have them repair it, including a new timing chain, if it doesn’t break the bank. Anyone know of a mechanic in Central Florida who really knows and works on Land Rovers, specifically the LR3 / Disco 3? I’m an hour north of Orlando. Thanks in advance for any help. I’ve cross posted to a few FB groups and a few Land Rover forums. Pic looks just like mine.
