Default New LR3 Owner / Question on Descent feature noise

I'm new owner of a 06 LR3 SE and appreciate the information on this forumwhich helped me in my decision to purchase an LR3. Did look for HD package but was unable to find one.

This holiday I drove to Bishop, Ca to visit family and was very impressed with the drive there. We drove over Angeles Crest at night/rain and could not believe the lights reach.Even more impressive was taking it up Silver Creek Canyon (route to the Bristlecones)in the White Mountains where it had snowed on Wednesday. Due to having the original tires on the vehicle I opted to go as far as snow level. The road up to Silver Creek canyon was pretty torn up once you got past the 2nd gate and the LR3 had no issues handling the climb(did have low pressure light go on in big rut during ascent). I've been in other vehicles where you really needed to look for a line to go up and with the LR3 it seemed to not matter.

On the descent I was in mud-rut mode (descent was on)andheard, as the vehicle controlled the descent, a loud metal twang noise. If I stepped on the brakes the noise would go away. I contacted a LR service rep and he mentioned there could be a noises on the descent and recommended bringing it in to check. I had no issues with the descent, it was just the noise that threw me off. Is this typical? Have others had this noise?

To date we have put about 1k miles on it and only things we have noticed are:

1) descent metallic noise
2) sunroof rattle (need to have dealer look at on next service)
3) air suspension adjustments (when turning on / off vehicle. dealer says this is typical)
4) new front brakes at 19k (replaced prior to purchase)
5) alignment (tires wearing on inside. post purchase cost)
6) mileage 15-16 mpg highway (have roof rack and cage). 12-13 mpg city (thought it would be better based on feedback in this forum. have v8)
7) light road noise from original tires

1.the noise you heard while in decent may be the braking system is makes an abs metalic tyoe sound.
3. self leveling

6.It is colder and you will get 16-18 on the hwy in the winter w/o the rack

The ABS actuators do make a little noise when using HDC. By the way, remember that if you are going down a particularly slippery decent, you may want to use Grass/Gravel/Snow instead of Mud/ruts along with the HDC to get better control of the decent. On hard packed grippy surfaces, Mud/Ruts is suficient.

Do yourself a huge favor. Get rid of the factory tires. You'll thank me later!

As others said change the tires.
Also the car goes into out of access mode when you turn it on and off.
