Default New LR3! Roof rack + cargo area questions

Hi all,

I just picked up a new, beautiful 2005 LR3. Thrilled with this truck so far.

I have a couple of small questions, and maybe someone can help me out. Thank you!

The roof rack is custom-built, but modeled after the Gobi racks. It doesn't, however, have any sort of floor. From the photos, Gobi racks seem to have a sort of cross-hatched foundation. Any thoughts on what to do here?

Second, there's a gap in the cargo area when all the seats are folded flat. I'd love to fill this in to create a solid floor. Ideas?

I had a voyager rack on mine which is similar to what you have. I sold it and bought a frontrunner rack. They are by far the most versatile and high quality and have been using them for years. As for the seat, I'm 99% sure you are missing the piece that covers that gap. I'd have to go out and look but I don't have a gap when I fold all of the seats down.

Your missing piece of the puzzle is sitting about a foot from the solution

on my 7-seater, the retractable cargo cover fits in that gap to make it flush.

edit - OK just checked the manual, p150 says only works for 7-seat LR3s

Sorry if I got your hopes up!

There is something really strange about that photo. What are the metallic looking things just FWD of the flattened 2nd row seats???

That is the seat bottoms when one has the uneven split second row. I know, its soooooooo weird why they did it that way. But the seat bottoms flip upwards then the seat backs fold down into the cargo area. Page 57 of the owner manual shows it. I would take the three-seat setup anyway over those. But this was kind common when the truck lacked a third row.

This is what I did for decking. I have a Voyager Rack which, if they called me after placing the order to follow up, I would have had decking installed. But they did not, so I got searching and someone mentioned Versa Pad. It comes in two configurations with how they interlock.

I found them in state for just $20 each at a farm supply store (Farm and Fleet). I used very heavy duty UV stable zip ties to secure them and I did cut into them to sink the tie and prevent cargo from cutting them. I also placed seams of the pads above crossbars for support. It is holding up well, and while the pads are pretty flexible they are strong. I just dont think I would put all my weight onto one spot. Some pics of install progress. Dremel was a blessing. Last pic also shows some DIY custom anchor points that have worked incredibly well too with ratchet straps. I tend to hold lots of firewood on the left side and Dewalt cargo boxes on the right.

So weird, indeed! Oh well, it's not a huge deal, I guess.
