New-to-Me '06 LR3 ... EAS Compressor Replace and Other Questions
Hi all – I mentioned in another thread that I recently bought an ’06 LR3. After driving it a bit this weekend, I’m glad that I bought it…and want to tackle the most obvious issue: the EAS (C1A13-64 pressure does not decrease when venting gallery).
I may just dive right in and get the Dunlop (Hitachi-like) compressor off of AB. The price seems to be right, and I failed miserably at rebuilding the compressor on my long-gone ’06 RRS (and the rebuilt unit that I bought also failed). Is the OEM Hitachi worth the extra $120? Or keeping on going with the Dunlop? Based on my experience (aka failures) and refamiliarizing myself with this board, this seems to be the best course of action. But if you have any cheap/easy fixes that I would be foolish NOT to try…fire away.
Related question: it doesn’t look like the Dunlop model comes with a relay. Should I buy a relay for good measure?
Far less important: the trim panels on the bottom of both front doors have fallen off. I have one, but not the other. $197 on AB…and they only have the RF (I’m pretty sure I need the LF, but TBH I haven’t even looked at the part sitting in the trunk). Is eBay my best bet here? This is a $4 piece of plastic…for $197 I will leave it be. 😉 Would I typically need new clips for this installation?
And finally, the PO had no service records, however I found a handful of receipts in the glove box. I was hoping that I would find head gasket maintenance…but did not. At 220k … it’s PROBABLY had something done at some point…right (or are the HGs on these stronger than on Disco IIs and I'm combining past vehicles?)? Anyway, since 2/22/20, it’s had the following:
· Alignment
· Replace: Tie Rod Ends
· Brake Flush
· Power Steering Flush
· Replace: Front Left Door Latch Cable and Assembly
· Replace: Thermostat Housing Assembly
· Replace: Tranny pan and filter
· Replace: Valve Body Sleeve
· Transmission Service
· Replace: Optima Yellow Top Battery (dual/second battery)
· Alignment
· Fuel Injection Service
· Replace: Rear Upper Control Arms
· Replace: Air Intake Tube
· Replace: Front Lower Control Arm Bushings
· Replace: Front Right Tie Rod Ends
· Replace: Tires 275/65/R18 Goodyear Wrangler Ultra Terrain AT
If this was yours and this is all you knew about it, once the EAS was working…what would you dive into next? I’ll change the oil and filters shortly. Maybe a tune (although it seems to run well enough). But any advice is welcome.
Thanks all!

Dunlop is al alternative OEM for Rover with the compressors. Should last as long as the Hitachi, but I would probably still prefer a Hitachi. The only third party brand compressor I would trust that is not OEM would be Arnott. The relay is not required, it is simply recommended to be replaced because a dying compressor often stresses the relay. So early on it was advised to replace it with a new compressor. The relay is not special and not specific to any compressor. It is a very common relay that can be bought from dozens of sources/suppliers.

It says manufacturer = hitachi ... is this the real deal for $500 less than AB??
