New to me 2006 LR 3 HSE
Well after 5 years traded in Big Red, 2003 Disco 2 for a 2006 LR3 HSE with winter package, HD package. A/C that works, cooler box that cools, heated seats that heat and 22mpg...!
Now to have the joy of building up again..... Watch this space

Congrats! Sounds like a good one...not much building to do, depending on what you're doing. Sliders, skid plates and tires (not necessarily in that order). You'll want an IIDTool so you can get enough clearance for 32" tires. Maybe change all fluids right now to be safe.
Welcome and I miss the days I got above 20mpg...
IID tool and a few specific other tools like fan belt wrench etc... Everything else can come after. x2 on changing all fluids! Anything with filters and fluids change it when you can, that is money well-spent.

Not sure...I have Nokians on my 19s and MT/Rs on my 18s. Seems like off-road tires are limited for the 19s. I used to run Michelin Synchrones (no longer in production) and they lasted a LONG time. If you want mileage try their Latitudes.
Congrats on your 06 LR3 HSE. I was truly enjoying mine up until today...... At this point I'm thinking I'd never take my kids across country in an LR3 and I'd rather take one of my D2's.
Today I slapped on a new Alternator because right after I got it I had battery light go on/off several times since it is going to be my wife's primary vehicle I wanted to make sure she'd have no issues with it starting. Well I got done and my wife says oh we have a Pre K meeting with the teacher at 7PM. I said okay, and my wife backed the LR3 out onto the driveway.
Well the one thing I was meaning to check was the darn cowling to make sure it was 100% flat and sealed to prevent any TCM issues. I just hadn't had a chance with work. So as I'm inside it starts raining like a Hurricane outside..... I thought nothing of it. So after I was cleaned up we jumped in the LR3 and I fired it up. I was presented with Cruise Control Not Permitted.... I was like hmmmm that's odd as it sure worked on our nearly 850 mile trip to Corpus Christi the weekend before...
Well I read up on it as best as I could and it seemed a new brake switch fixed the CC issue. I removed mine, inspected it, and it looked fine, but I've had em go nuts on D2's so I figured I'd go grab one at Auto Zone which is 20min away. I fire up the LR3 hit the road and get about 3 miles from Auto Zone and the dash lit up like an old RRC Christmas Tree with HDC Disabled, Suspension lowered (which btw for a transmission fault makes no frigging sense to lower itself.....), Transmission Fault, Cruise Control Not Permitted.....
I was like sweet god..... So I get to Auto Zone slap in the new switch and fire it up. No faults.... So I leave and am about to get on the interstate when it all goes off again.. At this point I am not the least bit pleased... I pull off near a Starbucks, and once again a key cycle makes it clear... I jump out onto the freeway but something was not right. It never would gain speed and it wouldn't shift past 3rd... I pull off and now my brakes are literally on fire.. I'm guessing the stupid TCM is engaging the brakes now.... So I let them completely cool and I tried to raise the suspension and I get waiting to cool BS...
I would have given anything for one of my trusty D1/D2's...... Well once the fault came back the brakes actually weren't being engaged anymore so I made it home.
Now it sits in my garage and I am not at all a happy camper right now. It's acting like the TCM got soaked, but I have no water on the floor, and the cowl is barely and I mean barely off the windshield about 6 inches down from the trim at the corner and it's sitting up maybe 1-2mm in a 1inch spot.
LR3's are awesome driving vehicles with great engines, but I'm sorry that failsafe system of dropping to the ground for a TCM is downright stupid. It basically tried to fry my brakes, and EAS....I know it is the heart and soul of an LR3/RRS, but geez...
So now my wife is starting to not trust the LR3 and that is also upsetting me. To be continued... Seems I fix one thing like the lock trim on the drivers door, then it gets bigger like an Alternator, now possibly a TCM or only god knows what, whats next the darn thing splits in half???
Tonight I'd have been better off apparently walking to Auto Zone.....

Only common denominator in this whole BS Scenario is the new alternator and the rain. I also didn't back it out of the garage so I don't know if it was immediately saying Cruise Control Not Permitted. If it was then that's certainly pointing towards the alternator which I tested showing 14.1v then down to 13.8.
I drove thru all sorts of rain on that trip and my wife drove the LR3 the day before yesterday to work with no faults.
I'm going to calm down (happy it didn't frag new rotors and pads that I planned on buying or I'd have truly come unglued..) Then after work I am slapping in my old alternator and seeing if all the BS stops. If it continues well I guess I'm really up **** creek lol.

Best4x4,
Feel your pain... That darn cowling!!!
I've been running a bead of waterproof caulking between it and windshield, also modified fresh air intake. additionally I used caulking to secure rubber seal around engine compartment. Passes the hose test...
My reman alternator from Napa runs 13 to 13.5 without problems.

Yeah the original Alternator was like 12.9, 13.2, 13.4, then the highest it ever put out was 13.8-13.9. The new one was 14.1 at startup then 13.8-13.9 after driving a bit.
Gonna pull the alternator and put it back just as a CYA, then if that doesn't change it I'm going to tear into this TCM BS and see if it's full of water or what.
All I know is when a D1/D2 craps out it's normally one silly thing vs lowering to the darn bump stops, EAS pump overheating, and the brakes on fire all at once. I was supposed to sell my H3 and have about a 1K buffer in case of boo boo's like this, but the H3 is still in my driveway and the LR3 now parked in it as well...
I can understand the TCM getting soaked if it was like an old D2 cowling and falling apart, but my 06 has maybe a 1-2mm gap in a one inch spot.. If it's that sensitive OMG I'd hate to see it trying to tackle a serious off road event lol.
All I can say is HELP!!!! At this point lol.
