2007 LR3 V8. On Amazon, the Land Rover oil filter is $18.00. Several other brands range from $17 down to $2.85. Is the Land Rover filter really that much better? I am a new owner...What do you old owners use?

 

I use Wix. Or I use Wix rebranded (under several names). I avoid unknown names and Fram. I will alway and forever avoid Fram filters.

 

You are the second person to frown on Fram filters for me in the last month, the first being the Autozone guy when I was buying oil and filter for my wife's car. Keep in mind I have always used factory items for Rovers. But what is the issue with Fram? Back in the day I thought they were pretty good, but apparently things have changed given what both you think and Autozone. I swear he was ready to yell at me when I even asked about Fram.

 

Even back in the day they were horrible. No, really. LOTS of marketing though. I have seen over and over people cut em open and they were collapsed inside, turned to mush, etc. The internals are very poor... well, paper products. What I saw was from 15 years ago, just to be clear, and they did open other used filters for comparison. Are they better now? Maybe. Dont care. Just will not use them. And for the record, I am sure Wix is not the best or anything. I just use them cause I have a source where I can get them for a couple bucks. And they have a good reputation. Like oil, you want a good product. But trying to really figure out the best will only give one a list of 1,000 opinions and a migraine. Just use good name brand products.

 

I stick with any premium filter and no fram.

Unfortunately I would also add MAHLE to the list of oil filters to AVOID.
They are now Made in China and Mahle changed the design to cut cost. Total garbage!

I'm the guy who was going to replace all the height sensors on my LR3 a few weeks ago...had a fault code that the left front sensor was not working...so I replaced them all and nothing worked. Could not figure it out, so I put the old ones back on...everything worked fine and has continued to work fine...Dakota's advice on my initial post was "CHECK THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS FIRST"...think I should have done that first....would have saved time and lots of work. Thanks Dakota.

 

I stick to Purolator or Wix.

I'll run no filter before I put Fram on my car. Cheap *** cardboard filter that does squat

 

For me filter materiel surface area and filter media type are what made me select Mann Oil filters for my Rovers

I do like Mann but I have not used their oil filters since I had my Benz. I do use them for all my air filters though.
