Here's an interesting LR3 4.4 situation I've found myself in. Earlier today my oil dipstick was showing way overfull - a good one inch past the max line - but when I drained the fluid I got about 7.7 quarts out which is in spec as far as I can tell.
This made me think that it must be the wrong dipstick, so I googled the number stamped on it "lqm500030" which appears to be the correct part number.
I filled it back up until it was just below the max line and that was only 6.5 quarts. At this point I'm not really sure what to do. If I trust the dipstick I could be 1.5 quarts low, but i also dont want to overfill.
Not sure I can add much except to also say that I've found reading my LR3 dipstick to be less than straightforward.
Maybe its the flat design, maybe its how the end is situated/angled, or maybe it rubs on the way out
My Jetta dipstick is super easy - it isn't flat, but a quite textured squared portion where the fill range is
The LR took multiple checks - and a few overnight rests and rechecks - to make me comfortable
Now I just make sure to add back around 7.5qt
I checked mine several times after buying it and it always looked like the first pic. Drained about 7.8 qts out. Refilled with 6.5 qts and it looks like the second pic. I'm all out of ideas except calling the dealer.
