Default Parking Brake Shoes

Hi all,

I own a 07 Lr3 HSE. The main question I have is, "will I be ok if i were to just take off the parking brake shoes and the hardware, and drive?" Can I regularly drive without the EPB?

Now I know you guys might be going, "why the heck would you want to do that anyways".

Let me explain: I heard a metal on metal sound coming from the Driver Rear and it was worn down shoes with hardware broken and scraping the inside of the drum. I ordered some new rotors, pads, and shoes for both rear sides. However, auto anything.com sent me two right rear shoes and it didn't work out. So my Landy is up on lift at hobby shop, where they charge me for every night I keep it there.

So for the time being (waiting for the right shoes), can I just put together the wheel on, except the EPB shoes and hardwares?

Your knowledge and experience will be much appreciated.

To drive, no you don't need the shoes, you may however have a persistent EPB fault, depending on what failed.

Also, if the EPB is operated with the shoes not in place, there is a chance you can damage the actuator itself.

I had an issue with constant dragging, despite the EPBs being ratcheted out fully. Using my IID tool, I put it in Service Mode and pulled the EPB fuse until the new shoes and hardware arrived. No EPB function, no dragging, but the light stayed on. Once the mail arrived, new shoes, hardware, adjustment, and bed-in fixed it.

If you don't have the IID tool, this is how you put it in Service Mode:
Turn the ignition key to position II.
Apply, and hold, the footbrake.
Apply, and hold, the parking brake switch to the RELEASE position.
Turn the ignition key to position '0' and remove the key.
Release the footbrake.
Release the parking brake switch.
Remove the EPB fuse.

Does anyone know how to put EPB in Service Mode on the 2010 LR4? (no Key)
Using method above when foot brake is applied and Start/Off button is pressed engine starts. Does this require software/diag tool?
