Premium Fuel: Sorry if this has been asked a million times...
So I just picked up my first LR - a 2008 LR3 w/ 86k miles. Premium fuel is "recommended". Do most of you use premium fuel at every fill-up? Or now and then? Or never? THANKS!
ran regular for a couple days, engine light came on.
filled with premium to "mix" regular and premium to get mid grade, light went off
been running mid grade ever since. unless it is not available, then I run premium (some places only offer regular or premium as mid-grade is just the mixed by pumping reg and prem at the same time in the same pump).
I have no idea what affect it has on engine performance and so on. I don't pay much attention. I don't pay attention to gas prices either, I need fuel to turn the wheels and as long as the wheels turn, I drive it.

Regular unleaded will not "hurt" the engine as the electronics just dial back, (retard?), the ignition and turn up the fuel flow.
I tied a few tanks of regular a few years ago and about the only noticeable change was the miles per gallon number got worse - yes, it can get worse - and acceleration was reduced.
In other words, use of regular gas in my experience hurts your wallet and reduces engine performance.

I run mid grade on our 07'. It also depends on where you live. Our elevation is about 5200 ft so we can get by with the mid grade. As elevation increases the requirement for higher octane decreases. All of our cars call for premium but we're able to use the mid grade with no problems.

I was wondering if you are running the V6 or V8?
Regardless of fuel, if the engine will start, the wheels will rotate.
The electronics dial back the performance as dictated by the characteristics of the fuel.
For me, running premium is the most economic as mileage is the best but I presume the numbers and priorities are different for others.

Premium in everything I own, and for sure in every vehicle that calls for it. Besides performance and mileage benefits (in cars that call for it), it has better additive packages to keep the engine cleaner. Plus, gas is just about free these days lol!
Does the fuel in the Denver area contain ethanol or other additives for pollution?
