Question and Help for Quick Release hitch
@clearwaterscott. While I would like to say that I developed an ingenious solution to fix the problem, I ultimately was able to push in and turn the lock so that the pin retracted when I slid the hitch into the receiver. However, I will say that I tried this same process several times prior to my post without success and event resorted to trying to take the hitch apart in an effort to investigate if internal gear teeth were stripped. In the end, it was trial and error until the pin retracted. I suspect that the lock was not rotating far enough to release the pin. Note: I haven't taken the receiver off since so not sure if this will be repeatable, but I'LL post back if it does.
@Bergus -- Thanks for the reply. I really was hoping this was just another example of my foolishness or some obvious fix. I have turned, pulled, pushed, pounded, cursed and kicked the thing. Nothing seems to budge the pin. I may resort to disassembling the unit but frankly don't want the hassle every time i use the unit.
Appreciate this thread, as I've been bouncing my head off concrete trying to figure this out. I'm having the same issue described by @Bergus above. I can insert the key, pull the green arm and turn it expecting the pin to fully slide down into the hitch as it's designed to do. 1) when I turn the arm as far as possible, the pin is still sticking out too far to be inserted into the receiver 2) when I let go of the arm and let it sink into the grooves (which based on all the video's I've watch should then stay put until being pushed into the receiver where the small silver lever lets the pin free and hook into the receiver... It seems as though it's stripped and just slips back to the initial position.
I'm trying to figure out if this is a brut force thing w/ the pin or key or something else.
Any further guidance on what's been done to fix. I'm debating buying another hitch, but they're expensive and it's seems many others are having the same issue... Would hate to have 2 very heavy and expensive paper weights.
Thanks!
Brian
