Default Question/survey for the board

For the IIDTool users among us, do you drive around - particularly offroad - with it plugged in?

…and I mean for prolonged periods of time, not just to check live values then pop it out.

Sometimes but not out of habit since it is kinda easy to kick where its plugged in. So if I have it plugged in, it it because I am doing live values or chasing some odd fault that comes up on the trail/road. I also plug/unplug it a lot in the middle of driving if needed.

I've had mine in for about a month or two? I drive it near daily and I like that it gives me the voltage reading on the dash. I'm not super tall and try not to slide into the seat so I have yet to hit it. From time to time I'll pull it up on my phone and check how everythings doing. If I have an interested passenger I'll pull up the live values and graphs for fun.

Off-road I'll pull it up just to watch temps, load, suspension heights, compressor temps, and galley pressure. Mostly for fun on busy trails but I don't actively watch it. Only glance if stopped or it catches my attention.

Default Good info, thanks

I have had issues on two different LR3s when I plugged in the IIDTool with the engine running, but presumably with a weakened battery. So anymore I plug it in before I fire up the rig…

Does the IIDTool have a battery in it? Or are you referring the car(s) batteries condition?

Not usually, i do have a switched extension OBD lead but find that it occasionally gives can issues. I do have a cheap ELM327 based bluetooth OBD reader that i can leave in and use the Torque app on my head unit if i want live values albeit more basic than the GAP tool.

I only plug mine in when I have an issue or need to do or check something, which (knock on wood) has been nice and rare
I do leave it in the vehicle (in a nice case) so it is always accessible

I never drive around with my GAP plugged in. I bought this display unit on Amazon which has a cord that plugs into the OBD port. You can adjust it to display quite a wide range of values. I have it set to display speed, time, water temp and voltage. Voltage agrees with my monitor plugged into the cig lighter socket. Speed and time are correct. Water temp shows 100 while driving on a warm day. Seems reasonable but don't know if this is correct.

Mine is plugged in all the time. I have it connected to a switched extension cable but i forget to switch it off 99% of the time.
I haven't come across any issues with it that way for the last 6 months at least.
