Default A question on urgency replacing Brake backer plates..caveats enclosed.

I’m doing the brakes.
And let’s say the backer plates on my 06 LR3 or not what one would consider plates as more so a sieve. (New England!!)

After watching some instructional vids I found my saying “holy crap that’s a ton of work to get at that part.”
so now I’m questioning whether to put it off!

My question to the brain trust:
is there a really good reason to get it over with now?

As my Budget is not limitless currently, and it’s a fact that there will be more work later this year on those assemblies which may delve deeper into the wheel assemblies..hence lower the extra work thresh hold…

thank you for any insight on this for the new guy.

What’s left of the plate…

Yikes.

I can move this plate like a warm tortilla with two fingers….
don’t look at the suspension arms to closely yet…

That is a can of worms, I would not even drive a rig in that condition to be honest. Looks like it sat in the ocean for a year. For now just leave them. Best to do them with the rear wheel bearings. I think you can get them from Atlantic British where they come in two parts. That way you can install them without taking much apart. But they are not cheap. The originals are only $30 each or so.

Default Cans and worms

Oh yea.
I did not get into this without that very clear understanding. Taking this thing on in stages for sure. The suspension and related are the real knarly parts of this thing. Moving to coils sooner than later as well. I did the screw driver test on every part in the wells. It all held up. My optimism says …Not the worstest… this is NE after all.
It won’t be doing any trail driving.

A Gift is a gift until it is not….right!?

thank you for that advice. Thats where I was leaning.

You'd want to start with those upper control; arms before they fall to bits, i also would not be driving it any further than a garage/shed to start work on it.
