Radio/nav turning on/off by itself
So I had a bunch of electrical issues after some water got in the cabin, and also the TCCM. Early on the radio/nav still worked fine. Cleaned up all of the factory (crappy) connections on the passenger side, and had the TCCM replaced and programmed to the vehicle. All of my faults are gone, suspension working as it should. Somewhere after cleaning up all of the corroded wires, the radio started turning on and off by itself. Sometimes it will display a message "system failure - vehicle shutting down", and sometimes there is no notice at all, and then subsequently the nav will go off. It happens very frequently, say maybe every 20 seconds. From what I have read, the nav is tied to the radio so I understand that part. All connections on the amp are good and clean. Battery voltage is good when vehicle is off, and while running. I'm at a loss of what else could be causing this. Is the radio itself bad? Any thoughts?? Please??????? Thank you.
Nav goes off 100% or does it switch to a Rover logo? The Nav will not power off if the radio goes out, but instead it would default to the Rover logo since the MOST network goes offline when any device on the network goes down. So if its actually powering down and rebooting, it sounds like a poor plug into the Central Junction Box (CJB). The ones on the backside are hell to get right. Otherwise the usually suspects are still place, bad wiring. Be sure to check the navigation module itself under the driver seat.
When this happens, the nav 100% goes out, screen black. It happens within a couple of seconds of the radio turning off. I just find it super odd it was working properly, even with water still sitting where the bare wires were, and then once everything was dried out, and re-spliced, this happened. Just FYI, when I re-spliced the wires, I cut a fair amount off the current wires to get to clean metal, and spliced in maybe a 1 foot section of new wire......Hmmmm,,,food for thought, would a different gauge wire cause this? I honestly don't know what the wires went to where the crappy factory splices were, but new, spliced in section are a slightly heavier gauge, since I didn't have anything small enough to match factory.
Different gauge wire can matter, but it would have to be substantially larger or smaller that the original. So prob not an issue from what you describe.
Does the radio turn off 100%, I mean go DEAD. Or is it just acting like the power button was pressed? Or is the music just cutting out?

When it turns off, it goes dead just like it would it you hit the power button for it or turned the car off. It retains memory though. For the short time that it stays on, you can change the station and adjust the volume just as normal.
Yes, screen goes 100% dark. I just swapped in another relay, just to check and does the same thing. I would want to assume that since it worked fine before I touched any wires, that it could have something to do with that, so I'm going to start there. Get a proper size wire just in case and re-do the connections yet again and move forward from there.
Side note, searching the interwebs, I have come across very similar issues (although not 100% the same), and it was a bad head unit. Slapped in a new/used unit and all was fine again. Would a unit fail just like that??

Yeah, I'll start with wiring first. IF that doesn't work, I'll look at another radio. It would be one heck of a coincidence, but it wouldn't be the first time that kind of thing has happened to me on the LR3.
So rewired with 18 gauge, factory looks to be 18 or maybe 20. no change. I did try something different this time. I put a volt meter right to the fuse for the radio to see if power was cutting out when the radio turned off. Never lost any power at the fuse when the radio shut off, and swapped fuses. I don't think this is a power supply issue. Maybe I'm wrong though? I don't have a diagram for it, but I would think I would think I wouldn't see power at the fuse either if it were a supply issue. Next step is to get to the back of the radio, and monitor the power at the connection while it turns off and see what happens.
Edit: got behind the radio, had a constant 12v source and what I think is the "key on" 12v source. Neither lose power/change voltage when the radio does it's shut down. Want to track down a wiring diagram of the radio just to be sure though I'm checking the correct supplies.
