Default Rear brake line replacement

My 05 LR3SE was leaking brake fluid. 82k miles. My dealer says the rear brake line needs to be replaced for $1700 including tax. Is this a job that I should feel comfortable with a non-dealer mechanic handling? I live in the Buffalo, NY area. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

that does not seem realistic at all. If it's the rubber brake lines, they are way cheaper than that, and the install is fairly straightforward. Check with lucky8 for the parts, and a shop recommendation, he's in your area.

Default Brake lines

Thanks. I just picked up the vehicle, and they said they have to remove the body from the chassis to get at the brake lines from front to rear. 10 hours at $115 per hour plus parts. "All new brake lines $1444 plus tax to repair" on invoice. I am new to the forum, how do I get in touch with lucky8? Thanks again.

There a number of threads out on DISCO3.CO.UK - Index where they discuss changing out corroded brake lines without lifting the body off - here's one example:

"I have done quite a few D3's lately with the pipes corroded at the back its very straight forward to splice them at the center of the car, if you want to have a go just bend forward the heat shield under the car at the passenger side next to the center box they should be rust free, I just cut them here and splice them with a 10mm connector and two 10mm male connectors, or you could even use 10mm male & female connectors. "

Of course a main LR dealer will have their own workshop procedure which does include I believe the body off approach. An independent shop may have a better option now you're out of warranty.

Thanks for that. I got in touch with lucky8, and I will pass this info on to him regarding repair options.
