Scare me away from buying a '06 LR3
It's been a very long time since I posted here...good to see my old password still works.
An '06 LR3 just popped up for sale and it has basically every toy (bumpers/winch/dual batteries/slider/FR rack/tires/underside armor/LOOKS like Johnson Rods installed/fresh Goodyears) that I either put on my long-sold '04 Disco or wanted to and couldn't afford (front runner rack and the rear swing bumper come to mind). It's even the same color as my Disco.
The issue however, is C1A13-64.
After I sold my Disco, we had a RRS for a while, and if the air suspension wasn't awful, we probably still would have it. Compressor rebuild, new compressor, all sorts of tinkering, and my wife said enough was enough. We haven't had a Rover since. My current project is a '94 Land Cruiser, so now I'm stuck between the most reliable vehicle of all time...and a Rover.
The current owner knows nothing about it and has no records. But his predecessor did a great job in building almost exactly what I would ... and potentially could save me a lot of time and money over my cruiser project (great rig...bone stock). All the armor made it hard for me to check for leaks etc., and I'm not sure how quickly I could get into a mechanic for an inspection.
Two Issues:
1) Air Conditioning doesn't blow cold (hoping just a recharge would work)
2) The GD air suspension (because of course)
(Right Mirror also is wonky...I move it left and it goes right...but it's just a mirror)
The code is C1A13-64. 220k miles, $7k ask. Seems like someone will bite quickly because it LOOKS cool. But they may receive a money pit.
Rides well...just doesn't do anything I want it to do (this will strictly be an offroad vehicle, but a comfy ride to get to the trail would be great...and this could beat the Cruiser in that regard). I was going to go OME on the Yota anyway, so technically I have a budget for a new susp.
Would you bite the bullet and try to fight through a suspension repair or scrap the whole system for coils?
Rough cost for each?
I love to do as much as I can myself...but the compressor rebuild pushed me past my comfort zone last time. I prefer big wrenches to small engines. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance. I've missed y'all.

I was thinking the same thing - the mods were so planned/well done (and expensive) that I assume the PO was on this board at one point...

Look at the small hex bolt on the front of the compressor pulley. It should be rotating any time the engine is running, whether or not A/C is on. If not rotating, the front plate has sheared and the compressor is shot. This was the case on my 07 purchase. Additionally, my Climate Control Module in the center dash had a blown circuit to the Refrigerant Solenoid Valve. A used Ebay module got me cold again.
It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, but it could be another $1,000+ to have a shop to fix it. I replaced the compressor, condenser, receiver dryer myself for about $500 in parts. Worked great for 6 months through a hot Texas summer. As soon as my daughter took it to Utah, the compressor took another dump and I had to pay a local shop to re-replace just the compressor for about $800. Crappy aftermarket parts or my amateur HVAC skills, who knows!

Offer 5 or 6k and enjoy.
For the suspension, just bite the bullet and put on a coilover conversion with 2" lift. Costs the same as chasing suspension issues and takes away that headache.
Coils would be 1200-1400 for the kit. It's an easy install to do yourself, just gotta take out the bag and put the coil in its place. Figure about 500 labor if a shop does it

I chased suspension and control module issues for several grand. Then did the Atlantic British coil kit after reaching my limit. Air is a better ride and more capable but the coils are reliable for me. If you do the coil swap, drop the spare tire to access the inside rear strut top nuts. With all the armor it has, sounds like a great deal.
