Default Spare tire question

I have an '05 LR3 and unfortunately I did not sign on to this forum until after I purchased it a year ago...without the HD package! Anyway, I replaced my tires (thanks to this forum's threads and info) with a set of GY Wrangler SA's (265/60/18) and love them! Had them for almost two months and they have been great in the rain, snow, ice and normal driving conditions we have had in NJ. Not too much off-road trails around here (close to NYC) so I have to live through all the threads until I have more time to take a trip!

My question(s) - I want to replace the donut with a full size spare, so do I need to buy a new wheel that is exactly the same as the four stock 18's? Or is there another, possibly lower cost option? Also, is it recommended that I put the same Wrangler SA 265/60/18 on the spare? Let me know your thoughts!

Thanks - alex

Alex,

I did the exact same thing. But I got two slightly used 80%+ of tread SA's and two spare wheels from eBay (tried to find two others but couldn't). So, I'm using one set for the spare.

If you like for $50 + shipping you can have the other wheel and tire. If interested PM me and I can send a pic of the wheel (its the double five spoke one). The tire is the exact same size, and isn't mounted.

To answer your question, for a spare it is not essential that the wheel be the same as the regular ones, especially, with the tire on, the dimensions will be the same. Weight differences or offset shouldn't matter for spare tire driving.

Has anyone tried running a 255/60/18 as the spare while running 285/60/18s on the vehicle? Will it screw anything up?
