The same spot developed on my 2006 HSE. I was wondering what caused it and then I saw this post. Today I took my LR3 in for an oil change and told the service advisor about the spot. They are replacing it free of charge!!!

Its so nice seeing people get real-time help with their issues from the knowledge base that is being shared here by all. As stated earlier, this forum rocks.

Any idea what causes it? Is it sun damage? I kept applying leather conditioner hoping it would go away but it never did. It was so annoying everytime I felt it.

You know, I usually applaud the service dept at LRMV, but I have tried several times to get the wheel replaced but to no avail. Now that I am on extended, I could possibly push it, but that costs me $100 deductible. Mine has gotten pretty bad, and dealer says it is combination of heat and oils from hands on wheel, which eats the leather. I'm glad for those who got it replaced. It takes about 3 years for it to show up in most cases from what I have heard. Unfortunately, I just turned 70k miles, so I'm way off the 48 month warranty.

The spot is where I place my left hand. I hope it does not affect my new steering wheel. Mine appeared in under two years.
