Default Suspension Fault

Amber. NO EFFECT on EAS function except to say there is a fault. Off-Road height retained. Cycled ignition; gone, but came back in 2 min. Cleared it with GAP Tool; NEVER returned after more wheelin' and then a 500 Mile return trip home. IIDTool said "loss of comm with ECU" or some $hit.

Anyone??

I occasionally get a random amber fault that goes away after cycling the ignition and has no noticeable effect on the vehicle. I don't actually know what the cause is and rarely plug in the GAP tool to read the fault right then since it doesn't impede me, but it seems like I've seen that same code come up when I actually do read them. I generally attribute it to a random glitch in the system since it seems to have no specific trigger nor does it seem to actually remain 'active'.

Yeah, I wasn't going to mess with it but since it came back 2 minutes after an ignition cycle I decided to plug 'er in and see. Plus we were near the end of the trail and it was a good stopping point. Since it never came back after I cleared it, I have to think that the second annunciation of it (after the ignition cycle but before the clearing) was probably due to the same miscommunication; like the message "latched" and was just being re-issued. Drove from Hell's Canyon in Oregon to north of Seattle over the next two days through more mud, rocks, wind, hard rain and no fault. I can sleep on that.

...I just wanted to share the experience and see if anyone else had observed it.

That describes the issue with my truck as well. If truck has been sitting for a couple of days, it will fault first time, maybe two at startup and goes away, as you described, by cycling the engine off then on again. After truck is warmed up it doesn't repeat. I thought I got it with the new relay install but it came back. Minor inconvenience, really, but weird.

Might be a little different root causes, though. I was at altitude doing mild offroading with lots of mud/puddles. A sensor could've got temporarily gummed up or something. My fault also didn't go away without me first clearing it.

EC I think yours may be voltage related, if it's only on startup. Have you checked your non-charging voltage on your battery?

Battery's brand spankin new... if the EAS is that sensitive to the voltage drop of a new battery over two days of sitting, whats a guy to do??

It's tolerable for now... bigger fish to fry with continuing on the maintenance catch up of this rig.

Check voltage at battery engine running, needs to be over 14.2
When you start to stray on voltage it shut down systems , suspension, then transmission, gives stupid faults and codes

After alt failures I always get loss of communication codes

Sheet! I'm on a road trip through Arizona ad Utah right now and my GAP tool is showing 13 volts. No faults yet. I brought an extra alt after reading Tom's nightmare experience.

Now my issue is, do I change it on my back in a location of my choice?

Or do I chance it and see if it will last for the next 3 days with the possibility of changing on the side of the road?

Decisions, decisions.

My bet is it lasts the next 3 days just fine.

Wondering if you are the devil or angel on my shoulder?

Woke up resigned to change it, now I'm waivering!

Last night I put a full load on. Seat heaters, defrost, interior lights, etc. voltage was 12.4.
