Default Trailer Hitch

Good Morning!!

I'm towing 2700# (unloaded) camper. It's the 2022 Geo Pro 15TB. ~370# hitch weight.
My 2006 LR3 really doesn't know it's back there. Unless I tell it. The OEM hitch is fine but...
it sits low, to low imo. Requires a 6" riser ball mount to keep the trailer level. The geometry
of the LR hitch and riser is VERY questionable. I want a different hitch...I think Wondered if
some forum members have suggestions. Thanks !!!

Jim

Wish I had a suggestion but I’m in sort of the same boat. Hopefully I’ll be getting a tent trailer sometime before spring and am looking for a decent hitch besides the factory one. The newest factory hitch doesn’t hang that low but the cost of them is too high for me.

I have the 3rd Gen LR040248 which is a MUCH better/compact design
With just a 2.75" riser, I can reach ~21.5" hitch height

Used ones come up often enough, just be patient and/or post a WTB

Note: The manual says "maximum recommended drawbar rise is 2.75in."

Do with that info what you like - I wanted to make sure I was within spec, for insurance purposes.

Totally get it. I am waiting for this part to get back in stock (wish me luck) Definitely sits higher than the old one in my photo. https://www.roverparts.com/exterior-...s/LR019990ABP/

That and a 2" riser has to be close....

Just adding that folks need to keep an eye on the early OEM hitches, they tend to crack and can fail.

I can imagine. They look almost like a casting.

That's quite a statement... what data do you have to back it up? I've seen dozens of these inserts and have never seen a failed one...

Although the English hitches are a bit different (they don't use a 2" reciever) they fail a lot hence why most that tow regularly fit an aftermarket towbar system.
I have a Mitch hitch which is an Australian made high rise hitch that uses 50mm tongues that doesn't affect ground clearance and better suits my off road camper trailer.
