Transmission Fault P081C driving me nuts

Thanks anyway, might start a new thread and see how I go.. LR had it for 2 days and said it was internal and or replace box!!! The trans works fine....just has fault on dash when in "D"....However did full scan and has handbrake fault U0128-00 lost comms and B110A-11 rear driverside central locking motor. But all works, go figure??? Maybe clues to the puzzle?.... I reckon this is our punishment from the Germans for beating them in WW2????

Is the "D" in the shifter unit itself illuminated at all times? I mean even when it is in park or reverse and even after its shut off, key out of the ignition, looking in from the passenger window type shut off? If so check at the top of this thread, that's what mine was doing and the solution was a new shifter assembly.

Hi Joe, I have illumination at the shifter via light switch (works as intended).... My shifter doesnt show what gear its in, not sure if its suppose to?? My cluster shows that. Running a can tool shows TCM in all correct gears when selected. Clear codes and watch live data with no faults, move shifter to drive and bang up goes the P081C-64 FAULT! I do have 2 other faults that follow with it, 1 in BCM lost comunication to park brake and PDM lost communication to rear passenger door central locking, but all work no fault.

I've recently purchased a one owner 2006 LR3 that is in otherwise perfect shape. The trans works properly but the "D" is always illuminated, the sport or manual shifting does not work and as soon as I put it in drive I get a transmission fault on the dash. My code reader shows P081C and after clearing will immediately appear as soon as I put it in drive. The gear indicator on the dash shows the proper gear, It's just the shifter indicator that shows "D" all the time even when the key is off. I assumed someone had spilled something on the console, but when I disassembled it and cleaned all the contacts they were as new. Looking back on the service records I have since new the shifter was replaced about 15k ago. I checked the shifter linkage on the trans which also looked like new, with absolutely no corrosion. I checked all the fuses. I inspected and soldered all the crimp connectors with the blue tape on the wire loom in the passenger footwell and found no corrosion. The sunroof drain is draining properly outside and there is no deterioration of the rubber fitting behind the side vent. The battery is brand new Bosch AGM bought last week. Does anyone have any suggestion on what I check next? Thanks in advance!
